Im a Junior in high school. I’ve been thinking about my career options and whether to stay or quit AVID. I have a 3.5 GPA and have mostly A’s and B’s. I’m an Hispanic legal resident and my family doesn’t have any money to pay for me 4 years at an university. I want to go to community college to get an associate’s degree in cosmetology in one year then go to community college to study psychology and then transfer to a 4-year community college to get my bachelor’s degree in a 4-year univeristy. Should I stay or quit AVID? Is there any online scholarships for community college I can start applying to as a junior? Should I go to community college and transfer or go directly to 4-year university? How do my SAT scores affect my chances to get a scholarship or into a 4-year university?
Only do AVID if you want to. CCs don’t care about ECs. You won’t get any scholarship options until you hit senior year. Talk to your Guidance Counselors about what lists they have. Definitely start at a CC and see how you do, where you need to put extra emphasis. Some scholarships will include SATs, others won’t. Talk to your GC. After two years in a CC your SATs won’t matter except for some top schools.
