Hello members of CC! I had a question about high school legacies to universities. I’ve heard some information floating around that your high school gets put on universities’ radars if they consistently send students to a certain uni (hence feeder schools…?). My school isn’t necessarily known to send heaps of students to Ivy League schools but sends one or two students consistently to certain T10s. Just curious about how much weight this holds? Thank you everyone!
I think this is a big nothing. The student applicant needs to demonstrate that they are an excellent candidate in their own right. I don’t think the term “legacy” applies here.
Some schools are viewed by some as feeders to these elite schools, as you note. But even with that…each student must meet the high bar for admission to these elite colleges with very low acceptance rates.
Well, it holds no weight if one isn’t in the top one or two students applying to that certain T10. And probably little to no weight for that top one or 2.
One or two admissions does not make a feeder school. There is no min/max/quota per high school, so next year 3 can be admitted or 0 can be admitted.
And you’re using “legacy” incorrectly.
Thank you for the response. Yes, I think that meeting the bar for admissions is the most important aspect. I really appreciate the time!
Thank you for the response and my apologies chief. I understand what you are saying here. My bad for using “legacy” incorrectly, I’ve just seen people on Youtube and such report on these terms using the words “legacy” or “track record.” Thanks for the time!
In the end, if you want to go somewhere, you apply and put your best foot forward. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.
Tons of schools send just one kid to many a school, both selective and not.
I put this category in the folder of things I would not worry about.
Thank you so much for the response and your time. I’ll work hard and put my best foot forward as you said!
