High School Most Rigorous Courses Question

Princeton, along with almost every other top college, says that they look for students (among other things of course) that have taken the most rigourous courses in high school. So this is where I have a slight problem. In 6th grade, we took an aptitude test that determined if we would do Pre-Algebra in 7th Grade or Algebra 1. I did not get an 85% or above (got around an 80%), so I could not do Algebra 1 in 7th Grade. However as much we asked them, our school firmly said that NO students could move up into the higher class, even with parent consent. As such, I will not be taking the “most” rigourous math class in high school, but will still be able to do BC Calculus in Senior Year. (About 50 people in my top public high school of more than 1,000 people passed that aptitude test and will take BC Calc Junior Year.) Anyways, I was just wondering if top colleges will look down upon me because of a test I took in 6th grade! It seems a little unfair but…What do you think?

Nah … don’t worry about that. If you take Calc BC and your other course load is rigorous, you should be fine on the rigor category.

It shouldn’t be a big deal–in the overall applicant pool, Calc BC will be considered quite rigorous–but much of it will depend on context: do people from your school in “lower” math courses still tend to get into top schools? Historical trends reveal a lot.
