High School Rank

How much do you think your ranking contributes to your application? Especially if it’s really high, like 14th out of 481 kids… does that look good? Do they even consider rank that much?

Thanks!

Also, do you all know whether or not they look more at your weighted or unweighted averages/GPAs?

I say it doesn’t contribute a whole lot, as your rank differs from school to school. I would say it just says that you are a very good student. What you need a hook that will make you stand out from all the other applicants.

14th is pretty good, but if you have not consistently ranked at the top for a few years then doesn’t look as good.Eg. 14th this year, last year was 110th, the year before was 200th, etc. I don’t really think ranking works, you could be 1st with a C average, or last with an A average.

You don’t get ranked until you’re in high school so how can it not be consistent if it just started? It’s not like we’re looking at multiple years. And no, you can’t be #1 with a C average… not even close.

Oh really? My school ranks the students, since sixth grade.

Oh well ours doesn’t until sophomore year… but I think that it is a very strong indicator of academic performance… especially when they look at your grades as well. Wouldn’t you agree?

My cousin goes to Hightstown Highschool (not a good school), they start ranking in 9th grade.

Honestly I like the rankings because there is a lot of heat coming up to it and after.
