Is getting a 5 on an AP after self-study worth the same as taking the course? Harvard recommends 4 years of language, but I want to only take 3 and self-study the AP so I have room for another elective, instead of taking AP the 4th year.

“Is getting a 5 on an AP after self-study worth the same as taking the course?”

Yes, but if you get a 4 on the AP language exam, you will NOT be exempt from Harvard’s language requirements. See: [Language Requirement](http://static.fas.harvard.edu/registrar/ugrad_handbook/current/chapter2/language_requirement.html)

It doesn’t matter if you self study for an AP vs. taking a class in terms of scores. If you want to self-study the AP, then go for it.
