High school seniors release 10,000 crickets into halls, get banned from graduation

I think that it’s really immature and irresponsible of them to pull such a prank without at least thinking about how they’re going to set things back to normal afterwards. Basically, they’re creating a mess that they have no way of fixing. We’ve had our share of funny grad pranks at my school, but at the end of the day, everything was back to normal with no permanent damage done. And those who pulled the prank were the ones cleaning it up.

I think that they should have been made to pay for all of the extermination fee (or is $600 all of it?) If they cleaned it all up, leaving no damage, then I could see why banning them from graduation might not be necessary. But really, they should know that their actions have consequences.

How do they know they got every cricket?

That’s not even a prank…that’s just rude and thoughtless. A prank is meant to be harmless and not expensive as hell to put back to rights. There couldn’t have been much thought that went into that. Just “let’s release a ton of crickets in the school.” Yeah…that’s imaginative.

Personally, I feel that the punishment is deserved. Does it suck? Yes…but…they also brought it on themselves.

Same happened in my high school…but not that many crickets!

A few weeks back, the same day as a bomb scare, several thousand crickets joined our high school…school was locked down and had been searched for the fake bomb scare and the kids still managed to get in and release the crickets…that is the most disturbing part…that they seemed to have no problem getting in to do the prank. My DS had the SAT the next day. Needless to say…the crickets not rounded up chirped loudly during the SAT testing and some kids must have complained because we received a FED EX overnight letter a week later offering up a new test date (for last Saturday) due to the disturbance.

Probably better than the prank a few years ago. 4 piglets were released into the school at lunch, numbered 1,2,3 and 5…

^My school did the same thing with pigs. I think the chickens were the worst though, they were really messy.

That is in no way fair. They should have made them clean it up afterwards. But if not there must be consequences for our actions. I just couldn’t imagine this happening to me.

A cow was led up 3 flights of stairs at our school. The prankster knew what they were doing ~ a cow will not walk down the stairs.

^ There are legends of every school near me doing this at some point in their history. One even says they had to get a helicopter in to get it down!

LOL I didn’t know that…
Hmmm wouldn’t work too well at my school though…we have an elevator.

damn, this is funny. I was thinking about getting a couple hundred pounds of rice and ricing the swimming pool. But who would have thought crickets lmao, their noise will forever be heard.

I think the punishment is reasonable. Unless maybe, if the kids get in there and clean it up themselves. And pay for all damages and costs. I doubt they will though. Our schools made us sign something saying we pay for all damages, before the school year began, every year. Diplomas are withheld until everything is paid. So, they are lucky they are being given the diplomas. I think they should have had more punishment.

I know a pet store that won’t sell crickets in any quantity in June (our graduation month) to any young person not a regular customer. Or mice. Or mealworms. Or anything else awkward and obnoxious.

Wow…that really sucks! Unfortuantely, my school doesn’t allow senior pranks. There’s no one to even sneak a prank because there are always dozens of security guards all over my school during the last few weeks of school. lol

In my opinion, the punishment is kind of harsh. They should have made the students clean the crickets up, pay for all fees, even do a certain amount of community service, but not ban them from graduation. Walking across the stage with all your friends and classmattes is something to remeber for a lifetime.

I understand that they must pay for their actions and should have thought before they did it…but still…

I’m a current senior in high school and I don’t think the punishment is that ridiculous. Senior pranks should be funny but they shouldn’t cause harm to the school or cost the school money, that’s just stupid.
