“Punishment by the administration of East Carter High School in Grayson, Ky., is deemed too extreme by classmates, parents — and even a state senator. But Principal Larry Kiser says the critters were expensive to clean up after.” …

Not walking at your graduation is bigger than you are imagining, redhuntinghat.

That’s why we seniors at my school waited until after we graduated. We already walked and got our diploma.

That doesn’t seem fair, considering they’ve worked all these years to graduate, and didn’t even get to attend…I mean, yeah, it was a little over the top, but they didn’t mean to cause any damage or anything.

I understand where the administrators are coming from here, but it seems too harsh. Make them clean up and pay for it, but don’t ban them from graduation.

Who counted the crickets?

And how were they acquired??

the internet

I guess the school felt that this punishment would refrain the next class from thinking of pranks to play right before graduation. At my son’s school this year 3 kids were not allowed to walked after they posted on Facebook a mean comment about their teacher. They did deserve it because it was a horrible comment. Those three kids were all top students, going to Harvard and other top schools so they were not just venting frustration. But the bottom line is: kids have to learn their limit. Better now than latter in life.

You can buy crickets at the pet store. Duh.

Yes Duuhhhhhh.

Lame Prank. Lame Punishment.

Wow, my high school banned people from walking at graduation if they were caught freak dancing 3 or more times during prom. These students deserved it.

Hahahaha kids at my school did this, they were suspended and are not facing felony charges because they broke into the school after hours. We had AP week and SATs the next few weeks while the crickets were chriping. I personally found it hilarious but I could see the implications.

There was a similar incident at a nearby school a few years ago. And same punishment – not allowed to attended graduation. Consequences should have been a lot more severe.

These pranks are dangerous and costly.

They got off easy IMHO.

I hope the crickets were okay.

People (including students) should suffer the consequences of their actions.

Good for them. They need to learn that their actions have consequences.

I have live crickets for feeding our lizard. They are smelly and disgusting. They should be punished for their dumb, thoughtless prank.

Excellent prank, jolly good show!

considering how terrified I would be of 1000 crickets jumping around school, they deserved what they got. they still get their diploma, and going to graduation is pretty important, but they had it coming IMO

on another note, one of my teachers gave me an awesome senior prank idea: get 3 pigs. label them 1,2, and 4, and release them into the school. then watch as everyone tries desperately to find pig #3 :D

What a moronic legacy to leave behind: being the cricket guy who didn’t get to walk with the class at graduation.
