I’m a high school sophomore who is really interested in UChicago. This is mainly becuase of the “life of the mind.” I haven’t found anything more fun than a good argument. Thus, over the next two years, I want to learn and think. This would mean that I would participate in activities that I enjoy and that force me to think, the cost of this may be that “they wont look as good” on a college application. What suggestions do you have for exciting activities for a government/economics nerd such as myself that would not be a waste of time and “would look good”? What can I do to make myself stand out on the uncommon app?

Why don’t you do what you want to do? Colleges must recieve tons and tons of applications from people who participate in activities that they don’t necessarily want to do, but rather participate in for the resume filler. If you are your own person and do indeed devote yourself to thinking, that will become vividly apparent in your essays.

(with that said…possible activities:
The only ones coming to mind right now are Model UN…and Chicago does host a big MUN conference every year and Lincoln Douglass Debate is also good if you like arguing.)

Thanks, i definately am going to do what I want to do. I’m allready in Lincoln Douglas and I’ll be doing MUN next year. I’m going to pusue my passions, I was just wondering if you knew of any specific programs or indpendent study reecomondations, those sorts of things.
