High School Sports for Cornell

I just completed 7 seasons of sports in a row. I plan to attend Cornell AAP for a BArch. I am a freshman going into my sophomore year and I plan to cut my sport count down to just cross country a year and devote the rest of my time to clubs, community service and such. I am doing this because our school took on a new coach for my other two teams, and he doesn’t know how to conduct himself. Unfortunately he uses discouragement and insults in order to get us to cooperate; it’s a bummer because our old coach was much better. Anyway back to my question, I am willing, if required to continue with my three sport season year if Cornell looks highly upon it but I wanted to know if anyone knows if it would affect my admission chances with just one sport per year. I am not a bad runner so I can show this to Cornell, already as a freshman I hold four school running records and plan to set more.

Well, you should never do something just to impress admissions. As someone who was also steeped in high school sports, that would be pretty miserable to get through entire seasons doing something you don’t want to do.

Then again, I won’t say that playing 3 sports wouldn’t help, just speaking in terms of a resume (especially if you were successful or a leader in them).

One idea would be to work it into your essay and show that you took a stand against poor authoritative behavior or that you decided you wanted to concentrate on a specific club or something that is pertinent to your career aspirations.
