high school

okay, well im new to this transfer community but i just found out that i wasnt accepted to my dream school. u chicago. i knew that it was reach…but i tried anyway. regardless, i was denied admission and am considering transferring next year. my stats:

1500 (yes total of all three, i know that its bad…but hey…its what i got)
top 40% in class of 500
very competitive high school
ib student
all ib/aps no honors classes senior year…2 honors junior year
president of 3 clubs, leadership in 2 others, involved in 9 others
200+ community service hours
F in honors pre-calc junior year
D in ib physics senior year
everything else good.

so im prob. going to a much less competitive college. i called another schools admissions office of which i was denied and they said that they were worried a/b my academics…which was expected. they said after a year id prob. be able to be accepted.

what are my chances of getting into:
u chicago
nyu
northwestern
boston u
ucla, ucberkeley, usc

next year…after hopefully one successful term. and also should i take the SAT again…b/c my score was soo low?

I think the best thing you can do to improve the record is boost your standardized scores and do well in college, which I know, both are easier said than done.

You might want to consider the ACT, as it is more curriculm-based and some people tend to do better on it than the SAT. However, some of the schools you listed (USC, NYU, perhaps UCs) don’t use SAT at all, or with nearly as much emphasis as freshman admission. For UChicago though, you’re undoubtedly going to need a higher score.

I would also recommend you take Pre-Cal/Cal and physics in your first year (assuming you’re a science major), and especially make it a point to do well in those classes. Schools love to see improvement.

You might also ponder about waiting two years (dreadful, I know) before you apply, as I’m not sure one good term will be enough to change their minds.

Best of luck :)

thanks thats really helpful. ive been slightly overwhelmed by all of this stuff.
