Higher ACT Scores

When do ACT scores get to the point where it doesn’t matter whether you should retake the test? Like I know if I got a 35 there’s no point in retaking for a 36. What’s the minimum score for this?

There are three distinguishable brackets for ACT scores. If you hit the highest bracket, you should not test again. Each bracket consists of scores that wouldn’t matter if you got the lowest score in the bracket or the highest score in the bracket (they would have almost the same effect on admission)

[0-6] U [7-16] U [17-22] U [23,27] U [28,30] U [31,33] U [34,36]

This is just based on my experiences looking at threads, results, and admission decisions.

@CollegePanda96 , Im assuming the OP is talking about ivies and top schools, in which I would say a 32+ will not hurt you. No score will help you, getting a 36 on ACT is not as impressive as a 4.0 or an IMO medal. So OP, 32+ OR MAYBE 31. But safe side 98th %ile is a great score.

Thank you both for your input. I’m a junior and took it for the first time last month and got a 31 (E 34 M 28 R 34 S 26 W not available yet). I’m looking at FSU, UF and U Miami as oos and several in state schools and am focused on earning as much money in scholarships as possible. @CollegePanda96 would you say those brackets applied to Superscored tests or just one-sitting composite scores?

One sitting.

Thanks! This is great information :slight_smile:

@‌CollegePanda96

Shouldn’t it be (33-36) as 33+ is 99th %ile

@PaulPierce34‌ that’s what the ACT chart says <a href=“ACT Test Scores | ACT Scoring | ACT”>ACT Test Scores | ACT Scoring | ACT;
