After this year, I will have taken 2 years of a foreign language in high school. For next year, the highest level english course conflicts with continuing my foreign language. I could take a less vigorous english course to continue my foreign language. Alternatively, I could attempt to take senior level of the foreign language but then I would have to drop AP psych. What would Princeton prefer?
Drop AP psychology and take both one more year of foreign language and highest level of English.
What level have you reached in the foreign language (4?5?ap?)
@MYOS1634 My school offers only a couple APs, and the other APs have prerequisites that have to be fulfilled in s freshmen, sophomore, and junior year. These requirements I intend to fulfill in time to take the other APs in senior year. By taking AP psych, I would give the admission team a result from an AP test to look at for entry. I have taken up to sophomore level of the foreign language.
AP scores are not considered in admissions. While AP Psychology is a good “gateway course” to strong AP’s, it’s less valuable than core courses such as Foreign Language level 3 and AP English Language. Prioritize those.
AP Psych is an AP lite that’s also an elective to be added once you’ve got all your core classes covered, but it shouldn’t replace a core class.
Princeton places high value on proficiency in a foreign language. All AB students are required to demonstrate proficiency by graduation. As you can see from Princeton’s website, four years (high school level) of foreign language courses are listed as expected if possible https://admission.princeton.edu/applyingforadmission/academic-preparation Further down, AP courses are recommended but with much less emphasis.
