Highschool Junior

Howdy y’all. I am a high school junior from Virginia. I have only taken the SAT once so far with a score of 2240 (800 writing/ 720 math/ 720 reading). I have a 3.81 GPA (Weighted 3.25 Unweighted) this year with roughly the same the past two years. In terms of leadership positions, I have started two clubs at school (Rock Climbing and Computational Linguistics) and I hold a leadership position for NHS. Varsity for Cross Country and heavy involvement in theatre program. Oh, and I volunteer quite a bit with a local Rock Gym teaching kids how to climb. What can I do to boost my chances?

Schools I am looking at right now are UVa, Bowdoin, Oberlin, Haverford, TCD, UC Boulder, Georgetown, Colgate, Coast Guard, and Colby.

Coast Guard: Reach
Georgetown: Reach
Haverford: Reach
TCU: Low match
CU-Boulder: Safety
Oberlin: Reach
Bowdoin: Reach
UVA: Match/High match
Colby: High match
Colgate: Reach

Most of the colleges on your list would be reaches because your unweighted GPA is really compared to the averages at universities like UVA, Georegtown, Colby, and Colgate. Try to get as many “A’s” as you can next year to raise your GPA.

However, your SAT score is great, especially considering its your first time. I would also suggest taking the SAT again, and taking the ACT as well. If you have a lower GPA but high test scores on both the SAT and ACT, it could help you a lot.

Chance Me??? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1651346-help-rising-junior-chances-for-my-top-schools.html#latest</a>

TCU Was a typo, I meant to put TCD (Trinity College Dublin). And NYU is looking like a good school.

One more thing, I know one of the deans at Bowdoin fairly well and my essays are usually very good if I do say so myself.

You are in good shape for TCD, with one BIG caveat: what do you want to study? In Ireland you apply to your ‘major’ and that is what you study for your whole time there. It is not like the US where you can take courses in whatever you like. For example, if you were to apply to study English, your first year you would take these classes:

http://www.tcd.ie/English/undergraduate/freshman/Junior%20Freshman%20SH.php</a></p>

For Computer Science:

So, as you can see, you want to be really sure what you want to study!
