highschool: songs to remember

Looking back 10 years from now, what songs will remind you of your last year of highschool.

For me:

Ani DiFranco-- Studying Stones, Modulation
Josh Rouse-- It’s The Night Time, Life
Zutons–Remeber Me (not as sappy as it sounds), Confusion
Brigh Eyes–when I woke up this morning

The school fight song and the tune of “On Wisconsin.”

Ski team would sing that at the top of our lungs at every chance we got. I think we were really the only ones at my high school who actually knew the fight song. I suppose we were a little obnoxious.

Modest Mouse, Float On.

a band whose bass player was a guy i liked performed this at our version of Woodstock the day before junior prom - it was stuck in my head ALL THROUGHOUT PROM, so much so that at the end of the night, as everyone was leaving, other people were humming it and then yelled at me for getting it stuck in THEIR heads. it also played in my head the entire next day at the shore…whenever i hear it, i can’t help but think of prom weekend.

there are more, but none come to mind atm lol

On Wisconsin…still have that memorized from marching freshman year.

I like that Bright Eyes song, but for memories:

Any Brendan Benson song.
Teitur - Poetry & aeroplanes
Iron & Wine - Cinder and Smoke, and Such Great Heights
The Shins - We Will become Sillohuetes
the napoleon dynamite dance song by Jamiraquoi (sp?) - learned that dance
Some gangsta rap songs that bump when we roll in the Nav like
Snoop - Drop it like its hot, etc.
and that Ice Cream and Cake song. stupid cheerleaders…

Modest Mouse, Float On is a great one, so is Josh Rouse’s Nashville haven’t heard the Bright Eyes tune; Snoop is so overcooked at this point in the game (oy); Shins is hot; U2, Vertigo; Wilco’s, Handshake Drugs; Kayne Wes, Jesus Walks; Neko Case, If You knew; Lorretta Lynn+Jack White, Portland Oregon.

the shins did we will become silhouettes? i have that by the postal service

Top songs for me throughout high school

50 Cent - In da club
Usher- Yeah!
Evanescence-Wake me up (whatever that song is called)
Alicia Keys - Fallin’
Eminem- Stan
System of a Down-Chop Suey!
Linkin Park’s last album METEORA

Se x and Candy by Marcy Playground… classic, but earlier than hs

the aeroplane over the sea–neatral milk hotel
sons and daughters of hungry ghosts–wolf parade
nothing better–postal service

Whitney Houston - How Will I Know
Huey Lewis and the News - If This is It
(I listened to these all April while trying to decide where to go…corny I know)
The O’Jays - Love Train
The Postal Service - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight
Phoenix - Too Young

DiscoLemondae’s right, We Will Become Silhouttes is the Postal Service…the Shins might’ve covered it, though, god knows enough people have covered other Postal Service songs (ie, Such Great Heights).

Still Tippin’ will forever remind me of how stupid my high school is. It somehow found its way on to the senior song ballot after the list was approved by the principal, and, of course, won, so we had to have a revote, at which point they changed everything to absolute crap. Oh, and Gold Digger and My Humps, which no one will stop singing.

Float On was the senior song last year, and I have no idea what this year’s is. I don’t think anyone actually voted.

9th grade - santeria by sublime
10th grade - sha sha by ben kweller
11th grade - bananas by gwen stefani and man in the mirror by mj
12th grade - mr jones by counting crows

haha, an interesting selection.

Anything Death Cab for Cutie, but specifically “Into the Dark” and “Marching Bands of Manhattan” and “Stable Song”
“The Best of Me” - don’t remember who sings this, its something like Simple Plan or whatever. I first heard it in 9th grade, super cheeseball song but I love it.
“Poses” - Rufus Wainwright
“How We Do” - Mount Sims
“Sugar, We’re Going Down” - FOB because I hear it every day in my BFF’s car
“My Hump” “Gold Digger” because of homecoming.

“Bananas” definitely reminds me of the best of junior year.

I love and hate high school at the same time, but I absolutely can’t believe that I’m going to college next year. I’m so excited, but I’m so scared. More excited than scared, but its still college. And thats like, holy ****. And Dartmouth, definitely at least 7 hours by plane plus an hour drive away from home. 3000 miles is a long distance.

Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
Crazy - Seal
Living on a Prayer - Bon Jovi
I’d Do Anything - Simple Plan
Seasons of Love - Rent
I Want it That Way - BSB

Still Fighting It by Ben Folds
No Diggity by Blackstreet
Deception by Blackalicious
Running on Faith by Eric Clapton

anything by Dave Matthews (does that devalue what I contributed? probably does for a lot of you, haha)

good luck come thursday, guys

AH! Ben Folds is so good! I saw them in August and they did this awfully cute cover of Dr. Dre’s “Beaches ain’t Sheet”

( had to spell it different so CC wouldn’t sensor and you wouldn’t be able to read )

okay, wow, Death Cab is my life, i’m listening to Passenger Seat as I type lol. “Best of Me” is The Starting Line, lol, I saw them in concert in spring break of my sophomore year, so I went home and downloaded them  It’s not corny, I love it! Download “A Goodnight’s Sleep” too if you like it

oh yeah, and Iron and Wine isn’t really covering Such Great Heights - they’re another project band by those same Postal Service people, that’s why it’s on the Postal Service CD

blu  how have you been? how is tufts?

Rilo Kiley did Such Great Heights, too, as did Dresden Dolls, though.
