Does anyone know of any liberal/artsy/abundant with enthusiastic vegetarians/“hippie” colleges that offer communication as a major and decent financial aid? I’ve looked into Reed, New College of Florida, Warren Wilson, Lewis and Clark, Whitman, and every other imaginable place, but none of these schools have a comm major, aside from LCC which doesn’t give great financial aid. I’d also prefer to go somewhere coed, and not somewhere that’s excruciatingly difficult to get into.
University of Montana fits your description. It has an accredited journalism school “where you can design your own curriculum” as well as a different communications major within the school of humanities and sciences. See links below:

My cousin went there for grad school and loved it! But I should also clarify that I can’t really live in a cold climate for some major health reasons.

Your comment about not being able to live in a cold climate will probably knock Whitman out of the running again (still), because they have winter storms that bring snow to the campus a few times a year.

Eckerd College has a communication major and offers decent merit and financial aid.
NCF doesn’t have a Communications major per se, but you can create your own major, and pursue interests during the Independent Study period in January.
The schools with good communication programs are going to be at least mid size and a lot of hippie colleges are small. However, CU Boulder is a great balance. Good comm and a significant portion of what you want.
Check out Loyola New Orleans. Their communications school is supposedly quite good and I hear they have a hippy type vibe.
