<p>My friend and I are in the process of applying to various universities, and while I have already applied SCEA, he has yet to submit his application. He asked me a question about Stanford which I did not know the answer to, about the student body, whether or not there is a hippie population present at Stanford. I get the feeling that my friend, a very liberal, artistic-hippie type (although extremely gifted intellectually), is afraid that he won’t fit in at a prestigious private university like Stanford. Not knowing the answer, I did not want him to have a false preconception about Stanford, nor do I want him to waste $75 applying to a school at which he could feel uncomfortable. Therefore, I figured I’d ask someone here on this forum who has more knowledge about the student body - perhaps current students of alumni. So, is there a hippie population of any significance?</p>
<p>hmmm… hippies are a little passe, so I don’t know if anyone calls themselves that anymore, but Stanford has all types :)</p>
<p>Its true that hippies are a little passe, but perhaps what I mean is that general type - more modernized but with some '60’s nuances.</p>
<p>I would consider myself like your friend, and I applied SCEA to Stanford, and Stanford is in my top 2 choices. </p>

<p>^ I apologize. Unfortunately, for some reason people like you and my friend seem to always be persecuted and degraded by others at our school. I did not wish for anyone to be subjected to what my friend has experienced in our high school years. However, I failed to recognize that I am no longer associating with narrow-minded people from my local community. I simply forgot to let my guard down.</p>
<p>I think he would be fine at Stanford - it’s a very friendly place and definitely has all sorts…</p>
