Hispanic Scholarship Fund 2019-2020

Dear ________:

We have reviewed your application, and would like to offer you a place on the waitlist for the 2019-20 HSF Scholarship. Your high achievement also makes you eligible to be named an HSF Scholar, which qualifies you to receive valuable support services such as mentoring, career services (including internship and post-graduation employment opportunities), leadership development, and knowledge that emphasizes career preparation, and wellness—physical, emotional, and financial.

Please read this memo carefully, as it contains further details and important instructions on how to maintain your eligibility.

What does it mean to be a waitlisted HSF Scholar?

You are on the waitlist to receive an HSF Scholarship. Should additional funds become available at any point through fall 2019, you will be eligible to receive a financial award, which will range from $500 to $5,000, depending on demonstrated financial need.
You are now eligible to become a designated HSF Scholar—one of approximately 10,000 of the best and brightest Hispanic students in the country who are eligible to receive HSF’s Scholar Support Services.
These include mentoring, career services (including internship and post-graduation employment opportunities), leadership development, and knowledge that emphasizes career preparation, and wellness—physical, emotional, and financial.

Designated HSF Scholars also have access to an influential network of 85,000+ HSF Alumni, who represent every industry and career path imaginable.

We request that all HSF Scholars complete the following steps:

STEP ONE: Submit Financial Aid Award Letter

Log into your MyHSF Account and submit a legible copy of your current Financial Aid Award Letter (FAAL-2019/2020) no later than Wednesday, July 31, 2019:
“Legible” means that your FAAL must be submitted in one of the following formats:
PDF file, or
Clear screenshot(s) that include(s) all pertinent data (First and Last Name, Name of Institution, Academic Year, Cost of Attendance, Gift Aid, and Unmet Needs/Net Costs)
STEP TWO: Submit Enrollment Verification Form

If you submit your FAAL by Wednesday, July 31, 2019, you will receive an email in early September requesting that you submit a copy of your Enrollment Verification Form from your school, and stating the submission deadline.

When you have completed these two steps and both the FAAL and Enrollment Verification Form have been reviewed and validated by HSF staff, you will have completed all the steps to remain eligible for the HSF Scholarship award waitlist.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity! Be sure to log into your MyHSF account as soon as your FAAL is available to upload, and then keep checking your mail for your Enrollment Verification request and submission deadline.

All of us at HSF—and our Alumni across the country and around the world—are proud of your accomplishments and excited about the promise of what lies ahead for you.

Sincerely,

Fidel A. Vargas
President & CEO

that’s the exact email of getting waitlisted

I have just received the same email. Anybody knows what are the chances of getting financial aid after being waitlisted?

Quick question, I was waitlisted as well, what does it precisely mean to be eligible as an HSF scholar? Does it mean after we submit the documents we will be official HSF scholars or would we have to be awarded a scholarship for that?

PhD student here and got waitlisted too… Anyone got anything yet?

From a quick look at the past years forum, it looks like some people who were waitlisted got awarded some money in December…

@SoPTch Based off this year’s 2019-2020 finalist email :

Dear Luchiano,
Congratulations!
We are pleased to announce that you have been selected as a Finalist for the 2019-2020 HSF Scholarship Program.
As a Finalist, you are one of 15,000 students selected from a pool of 72,000+ applicants from across the country. All Finalists have exhibited outstanding academic performance and exceptional leadership qualities.

This means that their are 15,000 finalist and based off @BolivianMustafa 's waitlist email…
“You are now eligible to become a designated HSF Scholar—one of approximately 10,000 of the best and brightest Hispanic students in the country who are eligible to receive HSF’s Scholar Support Services.”

I would say there are roughly 10,000 HSF Scholars who are selected as recipients of a monetary award.

Hi! Current graduate student. I was notified that I was selected today—the dropdown menu lists my application as ‘application selected’ and I had the clickthrough option to upload documents and did so today. Good luck, all.

@somethingcertain my application also says “application selected” how did you upload documents because I don’t know how or my portal is bugged.

@RealLuchiano It may be buggy - all I did was click the blue button labeled ‘upload documents’ and it directed me to a page where I could do that.

This is off their srudent faqs - “Applications given the highest scores by our readers will be selected as Scholars. At this point in time, Scholars will either be notified if they have received a monetary award (funded) or if they were waitlisted for an award (waitlisted). In both cases, Scholars are eligible for HSF support services and conferences, upon completing the verification process.”
Waitlisted students are still scholars guys

I contacted HSF through their email and message center regarding my technical concern. My application says that it has been selected under my application status but under the new tab in the timeline “Document Submission” I can’t upload any documents. Asked if I am in the wrong place or if my portal has a bug.

I haven’t received an email nor any status change if I’m waitlisted or selected, anyone on the same boat? the only email I received from HSF was last month when I was invited to apply for the stem summit…

Same here, I haven’t received any email at all. My application status only says completed and that’s all

My son received the email yesterday afternoon. He was selected. He submitted the first document. Now he is just waiting for the email for him to submit the enrollment form. Good luck everyone.

Has anyone else had my same situation where you haven’t received an acceptance or waitlist email but you were able to submit documents on your portal, including the Scholar’s Pledge? I’m super confused on what’s going on with my application status right now.

@avaldezo did you check your spam folder as well?

I got an email yesterday saying I was waitlisted, and got another email this morning saying I was selected as a scholar! I still have to submit the documents.

Hey can someone tell me about the HSF Scholar Celebration? Does HSF pay for the hotel accommodations if you have to fly or drive to one of the celebration locations?

Does anyone know any other way how I can directly contact HSF for technical questions? I was waitlisted for the scholarship but the only way that I have been finding out about updates is actually logging in (like everyday) to find out. I do not receive any email from HSF for some reason (letting me know that I was a finalist and waitlisted) and I do not know how to fix that. I have already sent 3 messages to HSF and nothing.
