Hispanic Student who turned themself around halfway through high school. Chances?

I am a half hispanic and half Irish student and turned myself around my Junior year of high school. I went from getting about a 3.0 average my freshman and sophomore to achieving a 4.25 average my Junior year. My father abandoned me my sophomore year and I have lived with my single 100% Mexican mother since I started High school. She lost her job of 16 years when I was a sophomore and times were tough. I decided to turn myself around and take full advantage of my education in high school. I am currently a Senior applying to UC’s. Davis is by far my favorite school. I am riding on my story of substantial academic improvement to get in, please give me an honest opinion. How important do you think improvement?

The Half Irish is going to kill you...

Kidding aside... you should apply to a couple of UC's you are interested in... as well as a couple of CSU's. The biggest mistake is that folks putting all their eggs in in one basket by applying to only "Favorite" colleges for which you may not qualify, and hence, end up not be accepted at any college.

Good luck.
