Many schools also have money just for selected minority students which usually includes most Hispanic subgroups.

Many people find that there is more money at individual schools than through community scholarships. There are some big scholarships that are the exception, but many scholarships are small money ($500, $1000, $2000) and that doesn’t make much of a dent in college costs anymore. Also, many schools will use scholarship money to decrease their part of the cost, not your EFC, so make sure that you can afford the EFC without outside scholarships.

The best money comes from the individual colleges and universities themselves. There are several threads on generous merit and/or need-based aid in the Financial Aid Forum, I’d suggest that you start there.
