HIST 200- The American Experience- w/ Seip

A question for anyone who has taken HIST 200 w/ Seip- do we actually need the books? Do we use them a lot in class? Or is the material from the exams solely from lectures?

Yes, you will need the books for the discussion sessions. During lectures he will just talk and you take notes, and the exams are usually a combination of both.

Also, go to his office hours. :)

Yes, you do need the books, but the lectures were the most important part! Don’t skip lecture! Manifest Destiny (book) is important for questions about Imperialism and Manifest Destiny. I definitely read/skimmed this book for certain essay questions.

Remember to be detailed with your answers, especially for important points for essays. If you have any questions about the subject matter for essays or what you have to read to prep for your essays, don’t hesitate to go to Professor Seip’s office hours.

Try to read the D&L reading for discussion, so you can participate and it also opens up more options for essay questions. However, if you didn’t finish/attempt to read the assigned part, read a summary about whatever you’re reading. For instance, you can read a summary about Progressivism on the internet.

I got away with hardly reading the Brands book. I only read it for one of the questions for the Final and once for a discussion response.
