Historical Question: When did any Ivys last require Latin &/or Greek for admission?

<p>I was having this discussion with a friend recently. It’s my impression that Latin &/or Greek were admission requirements for Harvard and perhaps other schools up until the 1930s. I’m not sure if this is correct. Does anyone know in what year Latin &/or Greek were last required for admission?</p>

Prodded by Eliot, Harvard took a first step toward abolishing Greek in 1886, and by 1898 the faculty had adopted a scheme “which made it possible for a boy to avoid either Latin or Greek without penalty in the form of harder work in other subjects.” Thus, even before the new century, Harvard had eliminated an exclusionary admission requirement that remained firmly in place at Yale and Princeton.

Far more traditional than Eliot’s Harvard, Yale did not eliminate its Greek requirement until 1904 and its Latin requirement until 1931.
