My son is trying to decide between a place for history at Cambridge (Trinity) and a place at Princeton University - and it is hard to find out what the day to day is like on the history course at Cambridge/Trinity; how many lectures a week, by whom, how many in lectures, how many in tutorials, how many tutorials a week, by whom, etc etc. Thanks for any info, either on Trinity (my old college!) or Cambridge in general.

Welcome, OP.

Well of course as you know even better than I (!), the two institutions are quite different settings, so one has to consider: Does your son want to concentrate as exclusively as possible on his major/concentration? At Princeton he will have considerable distribution requirements to take in addition, which cannot be waived. He could be offered “Advanced Standing” (graduating a semester early) due to a critical mass of advanced courses already completed, but the distribution requirements (in math, science, arts, ethics, literature) are fixed in stone.

And naturally there is the difference between two cultures and two different systems.

What terrific options. Congratulations. You must be so proud!

Yes congratulations. Are you or your son familiar with the UK equivalent of CC? You can learn a ton about cambridge and the uk system of education there. google the student room.
