History @ small/medium college

I’m a Singaporean student considering to apply for history at preferably a small or medium college. What are some colleges that have good departments in this subject?

Take a look at this study: <a href=“Perspectives on History | AHA”>http://www.historians.org/Perspectives/issues/2005/0509/0509new1.cfm

The colleges with the highest proportion of undergraduate history majors who go on to get PhDs in history (data from 1989-2002) are:

Wesleyan
U of Chicago
Pomona
Bryn Mawr
Swarthmore
Wellesley
Reed
Johns Hopkins
Oberlin

Any of these would be a good place to start (Bryn Mawr and Wellesely only if you are female, of course).

Any top school will have a great history department, the more undergrad focused the better. Choose the school, not the department. History isn’t one of those areas where major rank matters, especially among the top schools.
