Hit or Miss Gifts

Biggest hit would have to be my niece getting an engagement ring (she said yes). H loved (and played with) his 4’ tall motion-activated Darth Vader. D decided at the last minute to ask for a bunch of small, practical items vs. going on a shopping spree with me and was genuinely thrilled with the make up brushes and blenders, night shirts, etc. There’s a relative from out of state who sent every female in the extended family goofy socks from some famous sock company that sells online only. The young people were thrilled-some of us in the older group gave ours to the kids. I do not need bright green polka-dotted knee socks, but D wanted them. But I think that was the only miss.

Hit: As an auxiliary gift I got S The Infinite Jest. When he opened it he was thrilled and bust out laughing because that afternoon he had purchased the same book for his grandfather.

How do you know when a gift is a hit or miss when they are sent across country? DS’s gf was soo sweet to call and thank me for the gifts and said she loved them all, but she wouldn’t say anything different, so I don’ t know if she really likes them or is just being polite. But, I’ll take it!

I have a request for a hit (since I didn’t get gifts yesterday). Can someone “like” this post and send it into the next hundred? THANKS!! It’s a HIT!

I gave S, nephew and DH goofy socks and they were all a huge hit. I selected the themes with great care and all three parties were over the moon and wore them straight away. Some of the available patterns are truly brilliant!

@jym626 you’re the easiest to pick out gifts for lol

Thank you, @romanigypsyeyes !

Thank you @rosered55 !! Hit!

@SyrAlum - trifecta! Best holiday gifts yet!!

Far and away the most popular gifts were the D-Scope Pro cardboard virtual reality viewers that my sister got for the 10 teenagers / college kids at our Christmas party. Everyone wanted them. Really cool!

@elliebham ;:wink:

Hits: the tiny tins of Thinking Putty I bought for #2D and her BF. They, both fidgeters, loved it. The weather station for H - he’s anxious to put it up at the vacation place. Everything for #1D; she is so easy to buy for and loves it all.

Misses: I have enough comfy nightwear for a few years. It’s ok, but some diversification would have been better. I asked for one thing in particular, a nice key fob, and didn’t get it.

More thanks, SnLMom, 1214mom and bjkmom. I like this holiday

One son has started brewing beer as a hobby so I gave him a nicely bound brewing journal to record his various recipes in. It was a definite hit. Since he’s also a TV/movie fan, I got him this poster to go along with it -

Top hit…we sponsored a family with 3 kids and we got pictures of them opening their dolls and legos. The look on those faces had me crying and everyone else with lumps in their throats.

Top miss - My mil always sends some oddball things. This year’s biggest weird gift…matching decorative cow bells.

:x Pg and bodangles

One interesting trend at our family events: A lot of people brought gifts from Jo Malone. The candles were a big hit, even among those who normally don’t like scented candles.

Jym, you’re bringing back memories of the green squares we all “earned” on CC a couple years back… :))

I was thinking about the greenies, abasket!! That was an amusing side venture, though totally off from its original intention! And thanks too for the like

One of the “class of…” called the greenies something else, but I forget what. Anyone recall?

My 23 yo son got lists of beer - including subscription to a craft beer of the month club.

My daughter is celiac / needs to be gluten-free and thus finding granola bars she can eat is somewhat difficult. She likes Quest bars which are pretty expensive. She got a bunch of boxes, all different flavors.

I am a major 60s music nerd and got books on Jim Morrison and Brian Wilson, which I will surely enjoy. Surprisingly I didn’t get the new Beatles 1 DVD even though I hinted for it :-). Oh well! Also got some Lululemon clothing though I’m going to exchange it.

Cow bells take the cake.
