I’ve been accepted to the MM at NCSA in music composition. I’m already starting to get nervous about getting back into it, and the thought occurred to me that I really won’t have a lot of time there–two years is not a lot of time–and there’s a lot to get done in that amount of time.

I really want to hit the ground running. People have told me that this school is really supportive in terms of collaborations between departments. I’m afraid that I won’t be able to organize any of these projects without knowing a lot of people, so I’m going to try my best to form a good strategy to get the ball rolling, maybe even before I arrive.

Let’s say I want to write music for ballet–any advice in terms of who to talk to for collaborations? My first instinct is to contact the dance department, and see what the professors say. What should I say to them? What are the first moves I should make?
