HKU or HKUST

@jgeeleong They will accept one of the choices I guess. So if your 1st choice is unsuccessful, then they will pass it to the faculty in charge of your 2nd/3rd choice.

@kim1g428 For HKUST, if they offer you with 3rd choice while 1st and 2nd remain “under consideration”, it literally means that your 1st and 2nd choices are unsuccessful. I had asked the staff there before.

Guys, for BSc major in statistics, choosing between NUS and HKU, which will you choose? Thanks :)

@jgeeleong There is another case which I heard of. Sometimes HKU will reject your 2nd/3rd choice and your other choices still remain under consideration.

Congrats to those who got accepted! But I am seriously panicking. I submitted my application to HKU in December (not fast track), application to CUHK in January 2012, and application to HKUST in February 2012. I haven’t gotten any emails yet. Should i be worried? It seems like you guys already received news from these universities. or are you talking about the fast track ones? :frowning: Thank you!

oh and i also applied for 4 year program for both HKU and HKUST. does that increase my chance in getting qualified? :frowning: my choice of program is business and management :)

@glgan1

Thanks for your reply  and I would definitely choose HKU!!!

Hello. I am accepted to Binghamton SUNY, CUNY Brooklyn college and still waiting for an admission decision from HKUST and HKU. Which one is better if I want to live in US or Canada? I applied for double major at HKU (Bachelor of ArtsLiterature+Bachelor of Law) Is it prestigious in HK? My GPA is 3.7 and lots of extra activities and life experience.

@ Fluffy

For CU, they gave out offers all the way til August last year.
Me: Applied December, got offer April. Just wait I guess =P
Good luck with other unis as well~

@lovelylovelylady Thank you so much! That made me feel better :)

I really don’t mean to be annoying but I am just confused on how HKU’s application process actually works.
Do they reject people straight away or do they do it gradually i.e. You could be rejected in August.

How many rounds are there?

Do international students get rejected/accepted earlier to give them time to make other plans?

I would ask the admissions office my questions but they take a long time to reply and are often quite vague. Sorry again if I’m being annoying.

Hey there, I’m a new user and I’ve been following this thread for quite some time now.

I’m planning to study Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education in English Education (the dual degree) in HKU.
I still haven’t heard any news yet!! I’m kind of panicking because my friend applying Bachelor of Arts already got her offer like a month ago.
I’m studying in Canada right now, BC. Avg for 5 courses around 85% and TOEFL 115 out of 120.
What are my chances??

Any reply would be okay!
Thanks

Any updates???

Does it look ok?

Is it ok for US employers to hire someone with a degree from HKU?

I am an international student

@MysteryMicui

I generally think that US law firms (if that’s what you want to do) prefer US law students especially from ivy league colleges. What diploma are you doing/planning on doing (i.e. IB, A-levels,etc)?

Thanks. I am not sure about my law career but think it is a good combintaton ( literature+law) I am also waiting for a decision from HKUST Business/ I am acceptede to Harpur College of Arts and science at Binghamton SUNY in NY, USA.
The main issue - SUNY Binghamton is the best uni I can afford in USA, but HKU seems to be more prestigious. What do you think? Will it look better than SUNY Bing on my resume? I am aiming at Japan, USA, Canada employers because of low salary in HK

P.S. I am still under consideration. Do I have a chance to study at HKU?

jgeelong

Did you apply for LLB?
Are you accepted?

@ MysteryMicui

Yeah HKU would look better I must admit. Universities in the US are way to expensive these days. I am doing a similar course at the moment Arts/Law while I am waiting for HKU to reply. I too am still under consideration for the LLB and I have been since December as well. The salaries in HK aren’t bad as a lawyer they are considered relatively high for trainee solicitors and it is a lot easier to find a job in HK than in Western countries at the moment.

Your GPA is really good, it is in the lowest tier for what is considered the “excellent” range. However, I need to know more details like SAT’s or IB diploma… That being said I am not an expert and am waiting to hear a reply aswell. If it helps I have an IB score of 38/42 ( the bare minimum for Law at HKU) and am ranked in the top 2% of my state/region.

Also… have you applied to any other Universities in the US?

jgeelong

Hi,

I am accepted to SUNY Bing and Buffalo, CUNY Baruch, Brooklyn, City and Queens college.

I have no SAT and IB diploma as it is not common in Russia. We have our own National Exams. I passed math and my grade is considered to be 4 out of 5 (good)

I hope that my activies can affect their admission decision.

Where are you from? Did you apply for any school in US or anywhere else?

@ MysteryMicui

Russia, that’s so cool!! I am Australia. I’ve applied to NYU and some other liberal arts colleges in the US. I was accepted into NYU but I am keen on doing law as an undergraduate. I applied to UCL and St Andrews in the UK and was given offers for law but the fees and cost of living are out of my price range. Finally I applied to McGill and have been given an offer in Arts which I am thinking about.

Have you checked to make sure that HKU accepts that schooling system? Just to make sure because I have heard that some universities do not accept some national education systems, (e.g. the USA only accepts the SATs)

I am unsure as whether HKU really takes activities into consideration because its uncommon in asian schools, they really focus on academics. Considering this HKU is very westernised when it comes to an overall education.

All we can do for the mean time is play the waiting game sadly. By the way your english is very good !

jgeelong

Hello.

I can study almost everywhere with Russian secondary (complete) certificate except for England and a few countries in EU.

When I asked HKU admission office whether I was eligible to study, all they said was something like “send it to us”

I guess NO ONE EVER applied from Russia. I hope it will increase my chances. International diversity is the first priority lol
