HKU or HKUST

@ahtestam are you international or local ? Is that only scholarship? How about the admission result?

@scottellen Let’s hope for the best.:slight_smile:
I applied for BJ (Journalism)!!

^yeah!hope for the best:)
WOW! that’s a wonderful major! Is HKU your dream school?

@Tnadnepkrad I am International student( Pakistani). I already have got an offer from HKU (Engineering) so don’t really know about the admission result dates. Be Optimistic and keep hopes up

@scottellen Yes! That’s the only overseas university I had applied, otherwise I will stay in Singapore. I had made this decision last yr, and almost everyone around me knew abt it. My friends told me with my results shld be ok to get an offer but I’m still worried. :P

^I believe good luck will always to those who are ready for it and you are one of them! so I think what we need to do now is waiting patiently, no need to be so worried~:):slight_smile:
HAHA LET’S WAIT AND SEE!

Well said. You going HKU too? So what did you apply?

About 15 more days to release of fast track application, Hwaiting!

^
YEAH!!! My dream school is HKU too!! I applied for Science.X)X)
Best wishes for the last few days

@elisexia 15 days to fast track app? Then how did some people here get their offer? I have offer from hkust and have to deposit before 11 jan, is it possible to ask them for fast review? Will I be blacklisted? @@@@

@Tnadnepkrad, how much scholarship did u get from HKUST?

@Tnadnepkrad
From HKU’s page they stated release of fast track result is around mid-Jan (may be around 10-20 Jan) , but I guess for those faculties with more applicants they can’t start to give out offers by then becos they not only have to review the uni app but scholarship app as well. That’s why some people gotten their offer but their application for entrance scholarship is still under consideration. So I think it really depends on the faculty, so far from what I rmb those that have already received their offer are mostly applying for engineer.

This is what I guess, correct me if I’m wrong. U may just call them if u really want to get ur results immediately. No worries, we will all be able to get in I believe. :)

Will hkust send offer in holiday date, like jan 1? Or only in business days?

I think only on business days. I emailed the HKU admission office and they said 31st and 1st are university holidays.

Hello guys I’m new here :slight_smile: I’ve got a firm offer from hkust, science and have a few enquiries regarding life in Hong Kong. I’m a Korean and I don’t speak Chinese at all. So I’ve been thinking of learning Chinese before enrollment next year. But some of my friends told me Hong Kong people do not speak Chinese but Catonese. Does Catonese differ from Chinese by alot? Would it be helpful to learn Chinese??

^
Manderin & Catonese are quite different, I don’t think it will be helpful…maybe just some words are a little bit similar.
But I think you can get with it if you try:)

@Kosing Hey! Don’t worry you won’t required to have knowledge of Cantonese but its a plus if you do know it. You will be required to speak english in classes and all over campus. hope that helps. :D

I see… Thanks for replies! Then would learning Chinese be like…meaningless?? I could see lots of Chinese character on the road in HK while browsing web and I thought it’d be good if I can understand some haha.

Thx for the information. Has someone got the offer in engineering?

@Kosing
HAHA Of course it’s no harm to learn a language:D:D

Oh let me remind you that the chinese in HongKong are in traditional form not the simplified characters which could be a little harder to recognize. But take it easy~ all with english explanations:)
