HKU or HKUST

and I also have Depauw with some aid…but am looking for more

@aditya496
Personally, i like singapore more, but hkust is said to be better at business, no?
i’m admitted to both ntu and hkust for business, so confused which to choose.

see, thats what happens when one is spoilt for choice. …haha… @ Girlcc
wait for NUS and then decide…I’d go for Singapore anyday…if you did not know…Singapore imports 25000 jobs every year…they dont have a working population…so thats where one should head

Well Singapore is Far more better option than HK… For UST business program is good but not for EUROPE or USA it is recognised in China or SARs… But NUS/NTU/SMU is lass of itself…Getting in NUS is tough last year cutoff for CBSE was around 96%…if you have IB it is easier …

@Aditya… UoM is good choice… for what program you want to go?

For Engineering Students
Rheinisch-Westf

@tomandjerry At TU9, all undergrad engineering programs are in English. Correct me if I’m wrong. By the way, are you a HKUST student?

@tomandjerry what about getting into NUS/NTU with GCE A Level? You know anyone with this qualification and do you what it takes to get in these unis?

@thunderboltsid all german Under german undergrads are in german laguage… but you can learn… its risky but student life is amazing 500 Euro university fee…300-600 euro living… and JOB well third largest economy of world… can do research right after 1st year

well @ahtesham may i know your GCE Board… Cambridge or Edexcel?

@thunderboltsid … hahaha yeah i am HKUST student studying on full scholarship…also huwaiee maitri scholarship of USD 10000$… wish i could go back and get in to university of British Colombia

@tomandjerry why r u so negative with ur own uni?is it really true?give some positive things abt hk and hkust.btw what r u taking in hkust?

@tomandjerry Mine is Cambridge International Examination

@tomandjerry Well, University of Duisburg Essen has English programs in engineering and german language perquisite is A2 which can be easily managed with the help of an intensive course. Another one, Jacobs university Bremen is a totally English language university but it’s private so tuition is EUR 20000. But it’s need blind and meets almost full need with the help of grants and loans. Moreover, only 20% of Jacobs students are Germans, the rest are internationals. JUB is a residential university and has a LAC feel to it as the class sizes are very small. I’d recommend all students to take a look at it. BTW, SATs are compulsory.
Maybe I am wrong? Maybe you are wrong? Each to our opinions I guess?

@tomandjerry For real? I know some alumni from my school who are studying at HKU and they seem to be pretty happy about it and said HKU grads have pretty good job prospects but now I realize that their super rich families probably played a role in getting them jobs.

Didnt think about this before

https://career.ust.hk/upload/survey/f302-ExecutiveSummary_UG_2011.pdf

The stats look decent or am I reading it wrong?

@Jackrabbit

Yes. You are very wrong. The median salary (13k HKD) a month is extremely sub-par for any reputable university. That’s a 22,000 USD annual income and thats assuming you get paid for the equivalent of 13 months, instead of 12 months, which is a practice slowly being phased out.

I look at other, perhaps less known universities in the US, such as Georgetown, and they have average annual undergaduate incomes of over 45k and even 50k.

EVEN considering the comparably low tax rates of Hong Kong, your income in HK is practically impossible to support a single graduate, considering the cost of living and rent.

Think twice about what “good graduate employment outcomes” mean.

Agree with you @ dubyawhy
USA/UK/Germany are developed country… even a bartender or waiter in USA earn more than 3000 USD per month… government in USA have some employment policies and minimum wages are already decided by gov. HK is just a financial city became popular due to low taxes or no taxes … full Direct foreign investment.

thunderboltsid
I know Jacobs since i read a interview of Jacobs univ student in Times of India… The main thing about German Univ are there Study Environment totally practical studies even USA lags in Engineering Field Germans are far ahead just look at TUM Munich campus have BMW R&D which annual Research budget is 100 times than that of budget of HK total Univ budget…Man it is INSANE…Students can do research works from 2 year of their course… in chemistry they are far ahead than engineering 7 noble Laureates are from TUM…

@jackrabbit420 i am happy… hahahah what a joke… i know how it feels when juniors ask how’s its going? can’t say anything… if you will come i will welcome you more than anyone… we need a lot of population in HK specially not Chinese or koreans…
