Hmm... Anyone Else Notice This? UC Admissions Stats

“is it really true that most of the UC’s have almost 96-98% of their freshman class in the top 10%?”

yes because UC’s only accept from the top 12.5% of college-bound seniors in california. therefore, 100% should be from top 12.5% unless its a special case (perhaps athletes?).

but do also note that for some elite private schools, they may have students who arent in top 10% of their high school, but they probably went to a very competitive private high school, so their not being top 10% may still be better than someone from a public top 10%.

my school is a small private one and they abolished “public ranking” and valedictorian stuff b/c it “harbored animosity” in the past… haha, whatever

by the way, my school is pretty small so obviously more than the top 10% get into good schools. (there’s 125 in my senior class. top 10 percent would only be 12-13 people)

but there’s only a handful of schools like awakendream’s in california, where huge publics feed into the UC’s.

that is so not true, in my public high school 100+ people get in UCI and around 90’ish get in UCSD, and we have around 800 in our graduating class. Do the math

that was a reply for kfc4u

where do you attend high school, hailfromcali?

your school reminds me of arcadia high school in southern california. the vast majority of california high schools ARENT like that. as an education minor, i notice that too many people tend to focus on the top high schools and forget that there’s many other high schools in california where getting 10 kids accepted to UCSD is considered above average or even exceptional.

not every high school is at the same level as the handful of exceptional high schools such as monta vista, saratoga, arcadia, university, troy, pv peninsula, beverly hills, torrey pines, etc.

I’m in the crappiest high school of my district, which is a damn good district. The best people in my classes are looking to the lower UC’s and other state schools, and these people are quite bright.

here’s the link for the rest of the fall 2005 statistics.

yep kfc4u I do go to one of those schools you mentioned. Our school is pretty damn smart

I was from the Acalanes Union High School District (2nd in Cali), which is basically a feeder system into the UCs. However, individual schools like Lowell will always have their own weights in the UC admissions offices.
