I’m just confused because there were a few kids in my school that dont even come close to me academically and they got in. However, I got deffered and I was wondering if someone might know why? I think im going to call up admissions but they are back from vacation yet.

hmm you seem like a strong candidate… yur SAT is a little on the low side but not so much that it would cost you your admission… maybe your essay?

NEU is really particular about admissions nowadays it seems…
it’s probably your SAT scores that got you deferred; a lot of schools seem to have the trend to wanting your sat scores and your GPA/stats to balance together and be somewhat correlated together. (it sucks, i know -_- i agree)
I know a lot of kids in my grade who got deferred who got around your SAT scores and some of them seemed well qualified grade-wise/GPA wise.
SAT scores seemed to help a lot for some kids I know in my school who got in; some had average/lower GPAs (3.5-3.7/5) but got a 2050+ on the SAT and got in. Kids who had 3.7-3.8’s/5s and either ~2000 or below sat score got deferred it seems.
Also, NEU takes into consideration your weighted GPA and seems to weigh that more than your unweighted? It might be your weighted GPA?

But really, don’t worry. I hear NEU defers a lot of their applicants EA and then accepts a bunch later. A lot of my friends who applied RD last year got rejected even though they had better stats than most of the kids who got in EA at my school probably because a lot of spots were taken - you’re in better shape than a lot of other kids out there. Keep your chin up! :)

I’m in chemistry, and it’s actually a tough major. I’m not sure how much the department has to do with admission, but if it does, then I’d definitely say it was your SAT scores. Good luck!

I think you have a great chance RD. Sometimes its just bad luck and slightly low SAT score or could just be that they could only take so many and obviously they want to take another look later.

thanks guys! yeah i know it was disapointing i wish my SAT’s were a little higher it’s just I have a tough time with them. Which i know colleges don’t really care. By the way is it true that a big school like northeastern sorts applicants out through SAT scores and because my scores were low that is why I got deffered? And my weighted is a 10.12 out if 12… I know its weird we go off of a different weighted system. However, when i got deffered it didnt hurt me that much. The schools that fit me more are College of the Holy Cross, Bates, and Bowdoin. Schools that don’t look at me for SAT scores but for other things plus they want me to play football there soo I think i’ll be ok :P. Which is a big help!

I agree it is strange. Seems like it could be Tufts Syndrome where they assume you are using the school as a safety and so they are rejecting you first before you reject them.

yeah i know what you mean I’m just wondering how I can show them that they are not just a safety school to me! Btw do you think that it would be easier for me to get into NEU as a History Major? Speaking of Tufts I have a interview with the coach in the next week! Well atleast with my SAT scores they know i cant go onto bigger and better schools so they wont reject me there! Thanks for your help everyone

hey bro…your application does seem pretty strong…

Did you elaborate on you EC’s on your application? …for example…what you did at the manchester leadership thingy…or a particularly good edition or something while you were editoe of the foreign mag?

Question, did you visit the school? Some schools feel if you are in a 2 hour radius of the school and have not visited the school, shows a lack of interest.
