Hofstra 4+4 BSMD vs Sophie Davis

Hi All,
A proud dad here. My daughter got into both Macauley & SD. She is focused on SD (I know many Macauley students do the medical track) and we live 45 minutes away by train.
Does anyone have advice on the pros and cons of dorming? While it is more expensive I am concerned about the following:

  1. connecting with her peers in SD
  2. traveling ~2 hours per day when she will have a large work load

Thanks in advance

Would you be able to afford the dorms without having to take parental loans? If so, it’s a worthwhile investment for such an intense program, and a lot of support, friendship groups, and review sessions take place in the evenings.
However if it’d require you to take on a loan, it’d be too much.

Hello friends, my daughter was accepted into the 7-year CUNY BS/MD program, but she recently heard that the retention rate of this program is very low. They typically admit 65-85 freshmen every year, but only around 30-40 graduate by year 7. This is a major concern for us. Is it true? Thanks.

Matriculation from CUNY is not that bad so it should not be an issue. Haven’t heard about this statistic that you bring up, though.
