Holiday gift hits and misses 2025

I’d return it if not too complicated. (And I see that’s what’s happening).

We did a Christmas exchange with my husbands siblings and spouses. Each person got the name of one other to buy for, and there was a price limit.

I asked for a new wallet. Everyone knew I wanted and needed a wallet. I wanted a nice one. I got a set of flannel sheets.

One of my husband’s brothers got a Stetson cowboy hat from the sister who lived in Oklahoma. She had to carry it back on the plane to Oklahoma.

We stopped doing that exchange after that year!

I gave a lot of ZingDevices.com bracelets and sprays. They were greatly appreciated by those whom mosquitoes love as they really are effective at keeping the mosquitoes away with DEET and no chemical touches your skin. I gave a friend her Christmas gifts today, which included a pair of Zing bracelets, repellant, wool dryer balls and mini panatonne cakes. She loved them all!

Do you need to use the spray and the bracelets? I have Insect Shield clothing that work well for repelling biting bugs. I still put Picardin on my face and, if I am wearing shorts, I need to put it on my legs as well. I can’t tell if Zing would prevent the need for the lotion.

I guess it depends on how attractive you are to mosquitoes. For me and most folks I know, just wearing a bracelet anywhere in my vicinity deters the mosquitoes. When I gave a few out at Thanksgiving, the 3 people who were getting bitten stopped getting bitten, once they put the bracelet on their ankle.

As a side benefit, no one else got bitten once those 3 people each put on a bracelet.

H set up my Mom’s Aura frame for her yesterday. She absolutely loved it. She already sent me a message this morning about how much she is enjoying her coffee and looking at the pictures that come up.

Loved everything except for a candy gift called Mrs. Prindables. Candy apples with thick layer of chocolate and carmel and pretzels with the same covering as well as sprinkles. (Not good.)

Our kids’ gifts were amazing! We got an ornament with the photo of Little Miss Mess, framed school pictures of all grands, and a book of artwork of her first grader cousin (published by a company called Artkive). So well done!

Thank you for the reminder.

I bought an Aura frame but it’s still in its box in the dining room. :woman_facepalming:t3:

Any idea if it will repel ticks as well?

No idea about ticks but you can contact the inventor at zingdevices.org. He developed them specifically for mosquitoes.

All of our recipients of Bombas socks were genuinely happy to get them!

Love Bombas socks! I put Bombas in the kid’s stockings every year – its become a tradition (and I do see the kids wearing them). This year I even got some baby Bombas for our infant grandson!

We got some TJ waxed amaryllis bulbs for our Christmas mailings. This one we ended up keeping for ourselves.

My girls are sentimental about the shows they watched and books they read when they were little. So I bought a BUNCH of stickers of Calvin and Hobbes, Madeline, Blues Clues, Hannah Montana, etc. I couldn’t figure out how to divvy them up though. So I thought of them alternating with a grab bag. Then I thought, heck, we should all do a white elephant grab bag game with them. So we did that before we opened the real gifts.

It was so fun to see them and the SO oohing and awwing and fighting over a bunch of silly stickers! Of course my H and I gave ours to them at the end. Nobody wanted the Lazy Town stickers tho, which was the point, bc that was such a bad show!

The tshirts to go with Christmas pajama pants followed the theme too and were a hit also: Sagwa, Seven Little Monsters, Curious George, Wild Kratts and Arthur.

They all really liked most of their real gifts also (Vera Bradley and Topo Designs packing cubes, a Coach leather bag, an llbean wool pea coat) which was nice and the SO loved the Sibley bird book I got him since he’s taken up photography of birds as a hobby. He sat and looked through it several times during their stay. He’s the least outdoorsy person I know so that gives us something in common.

I was all ready to buy the Topo Dopp bag for my son, but then I saw the dimensions were 11x5x5 which seems really big for someone who never travels with more than a backpack that fits under airline seats. Does it collapse down if it’s not full or is it structured? I love Topo’s stuff.

We lost my Dad on 12/09 so this Christmas was already not feeling great. Then D2 was very sick on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and almost had to go to the ER so it really wasn’t Christmas for us.

My sweet H is taking us to LA this weekend to go on the Warner Brothers Studio tour. The highlight for D2 and I will be at the end as they have Stars Hallow set up for Christmas that you can walk through and visit all the places in Gilmore Girls. It may sound silly to some, but D2 and I are so excited about this.
