<p>How much do you spend on a holiday gift for your public school teacher, counselor, etc.? What is appropriate without going over the top?</p>
<p>Many public schools have rules about the maximum value for a gift a teacher can legally accept. I only gave gifts when my daughter was in elementary school and the “class moms” collected form all the parents and bought something with the funds. Once she got to middle school I stopped giving anything (with the exception of knitting a baby sweater for a pregnant teacher’s baby shower and a scarf for one who was retiring.)</p>

<p>We send in a gift card ( Starbucks, etc) for Middle School/ HS teachers who have gone the extra mile. Have done it maybe 7-8 times over 2 trips thru grades 6-12 thus far. 15.00 or so. During the elementary years, a gift every year, usually gift cards, movie tickets, etc. 15-20. Also did an end of the year thank you gift of roughly the same amount.</p>
