Holiday Gifts for your College Student

Just wondering what is on the lists this year. My son doesn’t generally doesn’t ask for much of anything but I always like to surprise him with a few things. He needs some new clothes but I’d like to get a few fun surprises. He is living in a dorm so the fun surprises have to be small and useful. Most kids probably want money and he will get some of that but I’m looking for that WOW thing. Or maybe not WOW but at least something to bring out the kid in him on Christmas morning.

Thanks.

S1 has already asked for the 2011 Sports Illustrated swimsuit calendar!

Well, this isn’t a Wow Gift, but anyway . . . My eldest is very low maintenance (managed to open a Roth IRA last year while living on a grad student stipend). I ordered fleece sheets for him, which are available in Twin XL from Company Store. (He lives in grad housing because it’s the cheapest way to go in Boston.) Also, ordered some for myself; they are soooo cozy.

Do you know the Archie McPhee catalog? They usually have some fun things.

Is there anything that he really enjoys doing such as skiing? What about paying for a weekend at a ski resort nearby. I did this one year and my kids loved taking a couple friends along all piled into one room to enjoy a weekend of skiing. I am thinking of doing something similar this year. I have multiple kids so the expence is spread out among them and they really love these experience gifts.

A Chic Fil A calendar was always a fun stocking stuffer. The calendars are great, and my kids loved the free food.

Like momma-three, I try to find activity gifts. I’m thinking about getting him a pack of movie tickets so he can have some movie nights with friends from high school over winter break.

Or maybe I could just photo copy the room/board bill stamped “paid” for Spring semester, roll it up and tie it in a big bow? :)

D1 is getting her wedding paid for this summer. ;)

D2 is getting Netflix through her wii for the remainder of the school year. Other gifts too but I guess Netflix is big at her university.
