holiday gifts men

I’m giving my husband snowshoes, and snowshoes for me so we can go out together. No idea whether this will go over at all! He’s always saying he needs clothes but I refuse to get him any more until he throws out the ratty stuff. When I look at his closet it is stuffed! He said he needed new shirts - there was shirt I got him last year on a hanger, still folded up with all the pins in it!

An airstation is not a gift,i have one, it is great, but not an Xmas gift…just buy one as a necessity for the home

My H’s favorite gift one year was a chain saw from my BIL. He also like his air compressor that he got one year from his Dad. The plug in car battery charger was also a good gift one year.
In the past I have given him- wetsuit booties, bag for his snowboard, bag for his surfboard

I like the idea of fancy beer.

Last year (as with most years) I was completely at a loss for H’s gift. I was standing at the Estee Lauder counter buying my mom some anti wrinkle cream and as I turned my head there was a nice looking 50 year old man making a purchase for himself at the Clinique counter. I marched over an bought my H some of the same shaving cream and he loves it! Who would have ever thought the old man I married would put something other than Gillette shaving cream on his face!

My DH’s birthday is Christmas day. Seriously. Kinda stinks, especially because we are Jewish, and the obligatory trip to the movies and the Chinese restaurant gets old (well, my DH does live Chinese food…) We go for dim sum for lunch.

DH also isn’t big on getting gifts. When we want to give each other something, we do it, and it doesn’t have to be tied to an event. That said, I try to come up with something, but its tough. And I have all guys so its tough to buy for all of them. They are big tecchies, so I can’t buy anything electronic as it will probably be the wrong thing. Last year I splurged for football tickets, but they aren’t big professional sports nuts, so last year’s treat was it, and we won’t be doign that again ( adn older s isn’t in the area any more…) So I am struggling again for gift ideas. I loved the Packers stock idea, but DH handles the stock account. I hinted around at it and he laughed. :frowning: even though his family is from that area. I repeat- he isnt a huge sports nut. He is a runner. So I will probbly get something from the running store. Older s is getting luggage. For younger s— still waiting for inspiration to hit… He usually likes stuff that folds and fits nicely in his wallet.

Jym- Hate the Dec birthday!
I have two girls and they are so much easier to buy for. My S wants a YMCA membership which is actually very expensive for a year.

Yup. Already bought the gift for older s’s gf!
YOunger s will be moving into a new apt when he graduates and starts his job. Maybe I’ll give him an IOU for furniture or something…

My husband likes coats/jackets, so every year brings a new one. Last year was a dressy wool coat, this year a(nother) NF jacket. He has a few tools on the list as well (how many wrench sets one person needs is a mystery to me).

I’ve done a popcorn popper, panini grill, a-frame tool rack, bike gear, like a winter indoor trainer.

I did the popcorn popper two years ago. It has been one of the better used gifts.
For the men out there- When you say you don’t want any gifts Do you really mean it?

My gift to my DH would to be to start working out at the gym with him again. He’d really go for that in a big way.

DH thought he would never wear them but now starts off weekend mornings reading and drinking coffee while wearing the flannel pj pants I got him a couple of years ago.

He and I haven’t really exchanged Christmas gifts in awhile. We just bought him some new clothes this past weekend anyhow. If we do a gift it’s something we’ll both enjoy or need for the house. Today we decided what this year’s gift to ourselves will be…crab pots!
Been wanting some for a year but kept putting it off so Santa is bringing us a couple of crab pots this year. One for me and one for DH:)

DH means it when he says he doesn’t want gifts. He really dislikes shopping and doesn’t like the idea of having to conjure up an idea just because of a date on the calendar. He’s more of the “get it when you need it” or when “the mood strikes” kind of guy. I’ve learned not to take it personally that he doens’t buy me gifts on special occasions. He’ll be glad to pay for something I want but he doesn’t want to be the shopper.

Heading out for bungee cords for the stockings! Thanks for the great ideas!!!

No books or videos? They are always part of the presents for everyone in the family. We’ve always celebrated Christmas and Hanukah which requires lot of gifts, as well as a Dec. birthday. H just got an Ipad from the rest of the family.

A trip to someplace tropical in Jan. will be a possible Christmas gift.

^^ooh that’s what I want. You don’t have to wrap it just and those tickets my way!

Hey, FallGirl - my H is getting the same gift from me! Usually I don’t spend much on gifts for him (and vice versa), but how many opportunities do you get to become part-owner of a world-champion NFL team?!

Bungee cords are fine. Big straps and truck tie downs like [Straps and Tie-downs at Cargo Gear](http://www.cargogear.com/straps_and_tiedowns/straps_and_tiedowns.htm) are even better.

Tools, especially tools related to hobbies, make welcome gifts. Ask his hobby buddies for gift ideas.

A man can’t have too many knives: http://www.knifecenter.com/

A good knife sharpener makes a great gift. [Edge Pro Systems](http://www.edgeproinc.com/) makes the best sharpener, but the less expensive Gatco sharpeners are very good also. Beware of electric knife sharpeners.

Flashlights, especially a higher powered LED flashlight like the surefire lights, make great gifts. LED technology has advanced dramatically in the last 5 years. Be prepared to be blinded several times a week, because he will carry that new light everywhere.

The remote laser IR thermometer is a great idea. Wireless (including bluetooth) meat thermometers are great for BBQers and smokers.

ThinkGeek has stuff that geeks will like.
