holiday gifts men

I haven’t seen a what to get the males in your life gift thread yet this year.
Looking for ideas. I go through this every year for my H. Adding to the issue is he also has a December birthday.
Pathetically all I can think of is new bungee cords. D and I bought him a Kinect but that was mainly because my D wanted it.

Last year, my husband was delighted with an portable air station. It has come in handy to inflate many tires. He also liked a tool called a dog bone. Slippers and a powerful flashlight are also winners.

H and I don’t exchange too much at Christmas. However this year I may splurge and surprise him with a new flatscreen for his “man/dog cave” (he and the dog love to lounge there!) - the current tv there is one of the old time jumbo tvs.

But, other things I sometimes get:
Jeans - his are usually pathetic after a year
Tickets to a favorite sports event - often his alma mater - Michigan State.
One nice weekend top - like a quarter zip NorthFace or Nike. He’s not a dress up guy and doesn’t need/like to have much clothing but one nice thing a year gives him a couple to choose from when he needs to clean up!
Gift certificates for a local indoor golf place - to go hit some balls in the winter.

But it’s tough. Just as bad to find stocking stuffers for him!

Here are things my DH would like:

First anything having to do with sports:
Anything golf related (magazines, lessons, gift card for a new golf club, etc.), tickets to a any sports event, subscription to any sport related magazine

All types of expensive electronics: I think the list is endless and he buys his own gifts in this department!

Also:
certain expensive liquor, certain cologne (I know what he likes and he runs out every 2-4 years), shearling slippers, leather gloves, hats with team logos, travel mugs, wallet (I know the type he likes),

What he does not want as a gift: clothes

All of this said we don’t exchange that many gifts for holidays. We just buy our own presents, or we say no gifts this year and take a long weekend away or have a nice dinner out.

Re stocking stuffers for men: so far I have bought H a Farmers Almanac (he gets one every year), a desktop calender, some movie tickets (from Costco) and a laptop cleaning kit (from Staples). Then I just fill it up with candy,

I struggle with H’s gift every year, This year the Green Bay Packers have solved my problem by selling shares of their stock. The other part of the gift will be custom framing for the stock certificate.

I keep suggesting to my H that we not exchange gifts and do something else --like a weekend away or something for the house. But he always gets me something and seems to believe he should. (Birthdays too)

So I got him an iPad this Christmas. He got me one for my b-day. I got him nothing for his b-day which is a week before mine.

So even if I get him nothing, he still gets me something. So I feel I have to get him something, although it is so hard. Same for my son.

Getting S, among other things like clothes, a new cell phone. He is an adult and responsible for his own bills and cell phones now. So this saves him some $. But men are really hard.

morrismm, my husband usually gets me something anyway. It isn’t always expensive, but he usually buys something nice, even if we promise each other that we are not buying gifts!!

Also, don’t think that guys don’t like things like lip balm, hand lotion. My husband spends a fair amount of time outdoors during winter months for recreation. He was actually jealous of one of the Burt’s Bees orders (I bought extra for a gift and it ended up becoming DH’s gift that year) that I bought for myself. My kids would not consider that stuff a gift (spoiled), but rather a staple that they should be able to grab in our home, where it is free of charge to them!

For fathers day I got my husband an infrared thermometer with a laser guide (about $45 from Amazon). He loves it for grilling but has had fun checking air flow temps from AC vents, etc. It’s got a trigger, a laser and a digital read-out, so it’s a total man toy.
My dad likes it so much that I got him one for Christmas.

I get my husband lots of little treats. He loves cashews but inhales them so I buy them just for special occasions - Christmas, Father’s Day, etc. I will also buy a couple bags of coffee that are nicer than our daily brew. He’s really interested in cycling and so I go to a book store and buy all the European cycling magazines. Surprisingly there are usually three or four choices. In the same vein, I usually pick up a few pairs of nice cycling socks. Add a good bottle of wine or some fancy beer and he’s a happy camper. He’s pretty easy to please.

Every couple of years, my husband needs to replace his slippers. He asked for LLBean shearling slipper mocs. He likes to wear flannel shirts in the evening because we keep our house very cool so he asked for a couple of new LLBean flannel shirts. I always wrap up some Burt’s Bees chapstick for him–he loves the stuff. One of my sons loves the Burt’s Bees facial wash and shaving cream so these might be nice stocking stuffers for your husband.

I had to laugh when I read your comment about bungee cords. My husband didn’t want to wait for Christmas so he went to Home Depot and bought himself a batch of bungees to tie things down in his truck.

I bought a very cozy sweatshirt hoodie for him last Christmas at Eddie Bauer. A year later, he still loves it. Our grad school son asked for the same sweatshirt for Christmas this year. I’ll post the link to it below.

My husband told me this morning that his flannel-lined jeans (probably from L.L.Bean are the best. He went to Army-Navy yesterday and even though his team lost, his fanny was warm.

The best gifts I have bought for my husband over the years are a Tom-Tom GPS and a grill with a rotisserie (which gets the turkey out of my oven at Thanksgiving).

I am struggling this year. I have given my ideas to his family for what to buy him and my ideas were not that great…

I did buy myself an absolutely fabulous fun Swatch watch yesterday in Times Square!

I bought a similar sweatshirt hoodie for my husband last year from LLBean and he wears it all the time. Working outside, to run to the hardware, to go workout, etc. Warm but not overly bulky.

(Fallgirl, I SO would love to get a share of that Green Bay stock for my son. He is an ultimate Packers fan, but I just can’t justify that right now with his college costs and expenses…I bet your husband will LOVE it if he is a fan!)

My husband likes the Power Stays from Wurkinstiffs [Wurkinstiffs - Innovative Menswear](http://www.wurkinstiffs.com/)
He has to wear long sleeved shirts to work but doesn’t have to wear a tie. The collars start to sag after a few launderings but these Power Stays keep them standing up nicely. We’ve lost a few magnets over the years but you can order extras from the website.

They make them for polos, too, but we’ve never tried those.

As a husband and father, i prefer to give and not receive… That said, anyhting Tommy Bahama, a great pair of slippers, cologne, a 1/2 zipper Polo swaeatshirt or a bottle of my favroite bourbon works…even some shaving cream from the Art of Shaving…as i hit the wrong side of 50, i appreciate the finer thngs in life,

I’m a guy. What I like for a gift…definitely NOT a bungee cord, not even a bunch of them although I confess I do like them, just not as a gift. A warm soft big blanket, not itchy and NOT one that says Giants or Eagles. Fruitcake (I like Bloomingdale’s best). Other food like homemade cookies or candy. Or nuts. Watches, as long as the band is comfortable and the watch itself isn’t huge or too expensive. Believe it or not a gift certificate is good, but NOT to Home Depot for goodness sake, to a good restaurant or even Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods.

Leather and suede Uggs boots, I have a pair several years old that are one of my favorite possessions (about $225). Running/gym lightweight clothes, but I’d want to pick my own sneakers. An overnight at a hotel or a weekend away is good, plus you both get to enjoy it. Comfortable slippers fur-lined (love my Uggs slippers). My Kindle was a gift…that’s a good one. Also a smallish camera…I got one recently as a gift to replace my clunky 5 year old original digital one, and I like it. Oddly, I have gotten a couple heavy wind chimes as gifts and they’re cool, at least to me. Some guys (like me) might like a bird feeder or hummingbird feeder.

Anything from here

Toys, garden stuff, really good tools.

Here is another idea. My husband likes electronic things like these weather stations:

[Weather Stations by La Crosse Technology](http://www.lacrossetechnology.com/ws.php)

I thought the bungee cords idea was decent.
My H is hard. He is frugal and healthy. Hates to celebrate birthdays and doesn’t eat sweets. Doesn’t golf. He is a pain to buy a gift for. He would say her prefers to not get any presents.
The slippers idea is good. I gave him a new pair last year but I went cheap and ordered a pair from Lands End that were not very soft.
He doesn’t dress up. Last year we did buy him an updated pair of jeans but he rarely wears pants so really doesn’t need another pair. He buys his shorts once a year at the Nordstrom sale and he still has 4 pairs he hasn’t even opened yet.
His sports are tennis and beach volleyball. He just bought himself a new racquet and new shoes. I will get a case of balls at Costco but that is something I buy him anyway.

I am going to get my S that fleece lined sweatshirt.

I will vouch for that recommendation. I have the Black and Decker Air Station and it is fantastic. Either plugs into a wall outlet in the garage or into a cigarette lighter in the car. I use it ALL the time for pumping up car tires, bike tires, lawn mower tires, exercise balls, etc.
