While driving back from grocery shopping, I heard an announcement on the radio that Macy’s is looking for help for the holiday season. I thought I’d pass the info on just in case someone out there is looking for temporary work.

There are many college kids who would love to work and earn some money during the long winter break. If you know of anyone else hiring for the holiday season, add a post. If this thread helps even one person find a job for the winter break, it can be considered a success.

Yes, I noticed a sign when I went into Macy’s last weekend that they were hiring. Many retailers hire at this time of year. If you are looking, you should definitely get on it right away, as retailers in the US like to have people on board and trained by Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving).

Yes, people definitely have to jump at opportunities right away.

We’ve all ready had 2 people inquire at our store (we own a local retail store) about 2011 summer employment. If this is a sign of what’s to come for the upcoming summer employment season, college kids should be inquiring about summer jobs when they come home for the winter break.

My daughter has a perfect school schedule for working a holiday job: she arrives home the week before Thanksgiving for her long ‘winter’ break - doesn’t return to school until just after New Year’s. She’s home for the big retail busy season, and was able to get a temporary department store job last year.

It translated into a full-time summer job, which really made things easy when she got home last spring.

At this point, she’s all set for her college job. She arrives home the end of next week and the manager of her department can’t wait to get her back for the holidays.

I’ve filled all my seasonal retail openings with returning college students … including one who comes home at Thanksgiving and is around until after New Years. I encourage any student looking for part time summers to start applying right after New Years and absolutely at spring break time.
