Holiday Jumpstart

I loved today’s post:)

Great idea! This gives me an excuse to visit the only fast food place I like, Chick-fil-A, and pay for the car behind me. I really think it’s the smallest things that bring joy. I also like the idea to text “thinking of you” to somebody - who wouldn’t like that?

Day 5 - Buy One Gift

Not my favorite recommendation of the ones we’ve been given thus far. I like to buy my gifts when I can find a good deal. However, since I have many family birthdays to worry about prior to Christmas, perhaps I’ll focus on get one or two of those knocked off today.

Also, the Jumpstart continues on Monday so you have the weekend for this task.

We are going skiing in Utah for 5 days the day after Christmas. We have also decided to do a family trip to Italy next summer and will pay airfare and the cost of renting a villa for our D’s. These two items pretty much take care of Christmas. I’m just going to do stockings and get a few things for each of them and call it done!

I have a few gift certificates to buy from restaurants near where my kids live. Probably a good idea to call about those this weekend.

Sounds lovely to all share a villa together and vacation together! Have an amazing time @showmom858 !

My dog gives my kids and their SO’s pajamas on Christmas Eve. I bought those on Monday. I will try and buy something else today or tomorrow to keep the ball rolling. Maybe some stocking stuffers.

Where did you buy the PJs? Last year I bought got at the Gap, nd the red Heath top,I a favorite for on. I’m looking for other suggestions for this year

I have gotten nice PJs at Costco, and last year I got the boys in “Labrador” pajamas at J Crew (or maybe J Crew Outlet). Victoria Secret usually has good Black Friday deals. This year I went with “family” pajamas from Target. They haven’t arrived yet.

I’ve gotten some from Lands End for H last year. Would love to get men’s PJs with REAL drawstring waist and fly that’s 100% cotton if anyone comes across them.

@intparent , I have a similar issue with my son, who also has a January birthday.Gift giving is is not my love language, so I ask him to make a Christmas and birthday list all at once. I’m also super grateful for those Amazon wish lists, which some people think are tacky, but I just want to give things that people love.

I have kids with birthdays in Dec and Jan. One is graduating in Dec. I’m not good at shopping that much.

My kids and a nephew and two BILs are both Nov bdays. My dad and sis are early Dec. Another sis and brother are this month. My niece is Jan.

Fortunately, I don’t shop for all of those folks—too many.

My son was in Alaska last Christmas and I waited almost too late to buy his pajamas. Ended up buying really expensive ones from
pajamagram because they were still able to ship in time for Christmas

I said at the time that maybe it’s fine they outgrow that tradition, but I couldn’t give it up when he was so far away—also the first year he wasn’t home for Christmas.

He’s back home this year and now I’m thinking he and his sister need matching pajamas for the first time in years.

Then maybe I can let that one go.

I would think at some point, once they’ve stopped growing, that there is such a thing as too many pajamas…

I tried to do day 5 and buy a gift (for myself!), but the product I want is currently unavailable.

Did anyone see the most recent episode of Shark Tank? It brought me to tears. Three children lost their mother to cancer in 2012, then they lost their father, a NYC firefighter, this year to cancer associated with the 9/11 cleanup. Their father had invented a cutting board with an attachable tray, and now the kids are trying to fulfill their father’s dream. The product is currently unavailable - I guess I should have ordered sooner.

And I tried to buy a gift certificate from a restaurant in my grad school kid’s town to a place I know she likes… and they don’t do gift certificates. :frowning: Santa was foiled this time.

I saw two women with arms full of Christmas PJ’s and thought they must be buying for the whole family for Christmas!

Well…I just cleaned out my closet so I could use some new PJs.

Kids are easy…they come here.

I volunteer at a fun thrift store…and a few years ago I decided everyone would get one nice gift from there…I mean really…I have a whole year to shop!

DH is getting a Columbia Fleece vest…new with tags. DD is getting some under armor running shirts…also new with tags, and a Christmas Longaberger basket filled with candy (candy will be new!). Haven found anything for DS yet…but I am sure I will.

“big” gift shopping is all done. DD wants money for buying business clothes. DS wants money for Airbnb weekends. Easy peasy.

I want a trip to Hawaii and I’ve been asking Santa for that for years…with NO luck. I’ll try again this year.

“candy will be new!”

Thanks for the laugh.

I don’t do thrift shops much but I do keep an eye on my neighborhood facebook yard sale page and have foundgreat deals on things barely used or new over the past year or so:

Cuisinart food processor (full sized), used once - $10

Brand new heavy duty, roasting pan $10

French Press, used once $5

Unused, new wooden salad bowl and serving set $10

Great deals for young people stocking kitchens for the first time!
