Holiday Jumpstart

Last day.

Day 10: Make room for an old tradition, or plan to start a new one.

“Think about the traditions you love every year…What’s important is that you prioritize time for these value-rich moments just like you would those other things that life and work demand of you. We’re making time for ourselves and our loved ones today…And if you want to start new traditions, now is a great time to do it!..Today is your day to make space for the things you love about the holiday season—whatever that means to you.”

Thanks for posting these. I think the September Sweep dailies were helpful, the holiday ones seemed a “little” weak to me. But overall I love Apartment Therapy!!!

Thank you, @doschicos. I do feel a little more prepared, now, and am going to resurrect a Thanksgiving tradition that I let slip the last couple of years.

I wish the list would keep going…

We could start a holiday preparation “tips” thread of our own??? I could start it.

Or we could just keep this one going.

The title does lend itself to more than the AT gig. Sure keep it going with a new twist now (if ok with @doschicos ) that you post any Holiday Prep/Jumpstart Tips of your own.

Makes sense to just keep the thread going, IMO.

@chercheur Care to share your Thanksgiving tradition? I always enjoy hearing about different family traditions.

I would love for it to keep going.

It’s silly, @doschicos. When my kids were little, to keep them busy one year I had them make replicas of the Mayflower using half-gallon milk cartons, sort of like this https://liagriffith.com/diy-mayflower-boat/

Then they used colored strips of paper to write down as many things as possible they were thankful for, and those filled the interior of the ship.

Before eating, they would pull a few strips out and read what they were thankful for. I used the ships as centerpieces to decorate the dining room table. Like I said, it sounds silly, but it was fun, and we filled those ships with thanks for many years. I still have the “Mayflowers” in a closet. I think I’ll pull them out again for fun, but I’m going to fill the ships with all the things I’m thankful for about them.

I think that’s a wonderful tradition and I like your new twist and I’m sure your kids will love it, too!

They’ll get a good laugh out of it, I’m sure. I don’t know why, but I’m feeling extra sentimental this year. I also vote you keep the thread going!

Just catching up. Thanks for all the “book your hair appointment” posts. I’ve been meaning to do this for the past week and just got my stylist’s last open December appointment — 7AM on a Saturday. I took it. (Now a note to remember to set the alarm.) Thanks CC!

My self-appointed task today: Sent an email to my kids reminding them to start a wish list for me and give it to me soon. I tend to be practical and pragmatic so most of my gifting to them is stuff they ask for. Makes it so much easier and everyone is happy that way. I just want the lists before all the good sales start because I hate paying full retail.

For anyone with kids graduating this year, one of those fancy diploma frames with school crest/campus photo/fancy matting, etc. makes a good gift, but some take a while to receive so order early if you want to give as a Christmas gift. If it comes late, you can give it as a graduation gift. We did this when our son graduated from high school and he loved it, so we’re doing the same this Christmas.

My kids have embroidered stockings (just from Lands End, not like the one my Grandma made for me as a kid — but they are still nice). D & new SIL are coming for Christmas, and I decided to try to get him a similar stocking with his name on it for when he is here for the holidays (now that he is “permanent”. So I’m going to order that this weekend.

^^Intparent do you have a link to the one you ordered??

I have 2 out of 4 kids “starter” wish lists. But 2 of them also have b-days before Christmas so they are dual purpose lists!

@intparent I am ordering for my son & daughter’s significant others this year too. Although we get the red ones from Pottery Barn But I have to wait until I get my Christmas stuff out because they come in 4 sizes and I am not 100% sure which size the rest of us have.

@abasket I ordered one of these:

I need to get another stocking hanger from my “mantel” (not really a mantel, but my apartment has a nice place to hang them over a built in lead-glass front cabinet. I might just buy all new hangers this year. The old ones that I only have two of are brass and don’t look great any more.

Lands End is having a 40% off everything sale right now, too.
