I watched This Is Christmas on your recc. Such a nice feel-good movie!
I just watched it again a few days ago. It reminded me how disconnected we’ve been the past few (pandemic) years and how important it is to make the effort to connect with people again.
The Family Stone or The Holiday? Do you like those?
Thanks for the recommendation… I put it on my watch list in JustWatch (a very handy app, once you get used to using it).
I am so glad I found this thread. My daughter is coming to visit for a week or so over Christmas and finding things to watch that none of us have seen or that we are all interested in can be a challenge. I suggested last night that we each pick a different Christmas movie to watch while she’s here so I was needing some suggestions that were a little out of the box!
LOL my 36 year old daughter watched Harry Met Sally for the first time on a flight recently. She has insisted we need to watch this as a family over the holiday break.
Oh I love “When Harry Met Sally”. Good idea.
I have not seen The Holiday. And we saw The Family Stone years ago when it was newer.
I really liked “The Holiday,” which I 1st saw on the plane and then again at home via some streaming service.
There have been many but I swear my favorite one was always from 1951. I guess it’s just sentimentality. Haven’t seen it in forever.
A Christmas Carol (1951) - IMDb?
You must watch it! A classic for sure!
That’s my fav version as well.
The Holiday is a favorite in our house!!
We always watch White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. It really is an oldie (came out in 1954). My adult daughter love it. They know the words to every song, the favorite of which is “Sisters”!
I’m pretty sure my family knows every word of “White Christmas”. It’s a fun movie.
We watch Holiday Inn, and Charlie Brown, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town ( the one with the puppet Fred Astaire). And by “watch”, I mean, we practically recite the whole thing. When S2 was about 8, he read the scripture from Matthew at church Christmas Eve, and I know he was channeling Linus. Not a dry eye.
DiL did not watch Christmas things, barely had Christmas at all. But FDiLs family always watches Elf and this year she will be with us, not them, so I warned everyone that Elf has to be seen as a group. DH loathes the movie and I told him to grin and bear it or no cookies for him.
Elf is one of my favorite Christmas movies.Love Bob Newhart.
We have a rarity that is a family favorite. Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree. There was a TV version based on the children’s book. Starred Robert Downey Jr., Leslie Nielson, and Stockard Channing. All three having singing parts in the program! There is not DVD, VHS, blu-ray, available. It’s pretty much vanished. I have seen some poor-quality versions on youtube.
During COVID I digitized it from an old VHS recording of the show we had, and we zoom-watched it together in Chrismas Eve 2020–we were in 4 different locations.
