Holiday party hostess gift where hostess is gluten free

And doesn’t drink?

I need to go to a holiday party and the woman hosting has just recently gone gluten free bc of health reasons. It’s a relatively new development and she’s trying to figure it out, so I don’t yet know what food gifts are ok or not. Thus, I’d like to avoid food – unless it is 100% known to be gluten free (and there’s some way to denote that it’s GF - like the packaging specifies it). She also doesn’t drink. Last year, I brought a cookie plate from a bakery; that’s obviously out this year so what are good small gifts (something that’ll fit in a small gift bag)?

I don’t really want to walk in the door with some huge plant, as it’s a rather large party and I’d like to be subtle about it - just hand her a bag. Any good “home” gifts that she’s unlikely to view as more clutter for the house? (FYI - she’s single, so it’s not one of those - bring cookies, the husband will eat them).

Chocolate?
See’s Candies

Flowers. Doesn’t have to be a huge plant.

Wow, that’s a tough one. i’m someone who recently downsized to a much smaller house and I have a zero-tolerance no-clutter policy, so, if I were in that situation, I’d much, much, much prefer no gift at all.

Maybe a bottle of luxurious hand lotion? Another idea is one of those nicely packaged soup mixes in a mason jar, either store bought or homemade. Just be sure it is gluten free.

chocolate, nice candle, nuts, stationery or note pad, french macarons

If she is a cook, a nice bottle of a specialty olive oil or balsamic vinegar might be nice.

That’s a great idea…the olive oil and vinegar.

Some chocolate won’t be gf (malt is sometimes the guilty party)… We appreciate fruit, flowers, a seasonal CD, try really expensive olive oil, or even gf mixes in a pretty bag or basket. Or a selection of GF crackers and good cheddar (cheese is almost always gf).

Some nice artisinal truffles, chocolates, or caramels. Not Sees, their candy is barely above the Fannie Farmer level.

nice cocktail napkins, orchid plant, any interesting condiments, nice candles (more of the taper variety than the scented variety), a book you think she’ll like, something for her powder room like nice guest soaps or liquid hand soaps (my current favorite is the paddywax brand), tea towels.

Maybe in some parts of the country. See’s Candies originated in California, and is still widely loved and considered a popular gift in many places. For me, it is nostalgic to remember going into their candy stores as a kid.

Someone doesn’t love See’s ??? To be honest, I haven’t eaten their chocolates in ions, mostly because my Sees candy of choice are the lollipops, in particular butterscotch. A Christmas stocking staple in my home.

You are welcome to being Sees chocolates to my house as a hostess gift. Everyone here loves them!

I’m a bit of a food snob. I eat very minimal processed food, love artisanal and good quality products including chocolate but I still love See’s and I’m not from the West coast. It’s not cutting edge stuff, but for the traditional, American style chocolates, it is fresh.

A nice tea assortment, flowers, a box of soaps or skin lotion, a book you read recently and enjoyed.

Traditional macarons are GF (not to be confused with yucky coconut macaroon cookies!).

There’s a See’s store within walking distance of my house, but I never knew it was anything special. Their packaging just looks like what I could pick up at any drugstore, and their store presentation looks cheap, so I’ve never tried it. If I were going solely on packaging, Godiva or Ghirardelli look more special to me, is See’s really any good?

A REALLY good Basamic.
When you turn it upside down it should look like carmel.
$20-$30.
I keep a few on hand for such gifts and have been thanked!

Going back to the OP - you gave her cookies before. Why not just get some gluten-free cookies? It’s on the package. You can find gf stuff anywhere these days.v
