Holiday shopping 2022

Speaking of the now famous hot honey, I was looking for a replacement bottle at Kroger and saw they had a store brand hot honey for like half the price! I bought it and it was decent! Cheaper stocking stuffer.

For any scotch lovers, Amazon has a cute 2 cup set with 8 granite cooling cubes for under $20. We bought our neighbor a single cup with writing on it for a milestone birthday. He says he really likes it. It looks to be a nice gift and some come in nice linen lined boxes as well. That and a nice bottle of scotch would be a great pairing.

I got my son the extra hot from World Market. He said the regular wasn’t very spicy last year.
I still haven’t found any little drink mixers I’ve liked enough to buy, but they are totally optional.

My son and his new wife went and bought a (town)house. (Interest rate OVER 7% - kind of hard to swallow after all these years of sub-5).
Their Christmas list looks much different than it did a couple weeks ago.

Congratulations to your son and DiL on their new home! It seems they found it was a good deal no matter how high the interest rate might look to some of us now.
I imagine that gift cards to Lowe’s and Home Depot will be welcome for your son and DiL this year.

Can I make a suggestion re: Holiday gifts for new home owners? H and I bought our first house in our 20’s (13.5% interest rate - and that was a VA loan). We seemingly put every spare penny into the house and even with double income no kids our budget was tight. Christmas rolled around and everyone bought us stuff ā€œfor the houseā€. Nice…except I would have loved to have gotten something for me/us. I really, really hoped that someone would realize that I would have so liked to have gotten a pretty sweater to wear when my clothing budget was zero. Or a gift card for a dinner out (not in the budget either back then).

So while I like the home improvement gift card idea, something personal and fun might be appreciated, too.

I agree completely. They each got fancy slippers to walk on their hardwood floors, and they will get other stuff.

@1214mom those slippers look so comfortable! I love Olukai flip flops that I got after a bout with plantar fasciitis years ago, as they have so much support. In fact I’m wearing my old pair in the house right now to support my feet while making dinner. I may have to suggest to my husband he can a pair of those slippers for me for winter wear!

Both D’s have asked for Padres jerseys with their favorite players for Christmas. D1 will get a Machado shirt and D2 will get a Musgrove shirt. Told H we need to make a trip to the Padres store to pick these up and we can have lunch at a place we love downtown.

My son and DIL bought their first home last year. We asked her for Christmas gift ideas and she told us she’d like saws, as in a circular saw and a jigsaw. :open_mouth:

I bet they’d really like an oscillating multi-tool too.

I had to look that one up, as I don’t know the first thing about tools. Yes, a multi-tool looks…
practical.

I will a give a bit of this and that…like corn on the cob holders for one of my sons’ family as they don’t have them…but the major gifts will be cold, hard cash this year. I can’t do it.

My William Sonoma advent calendar, that I ordered 6 weeks ago, finally shipped! I’m relieved as I was ready to hear that they cancelled the order.

oh my gosh, replying to my own post to say: except for the grandkids!! I’ll buy them more. Cash would not be cool and they would be disappointed. LOL.

Speaking of grandchildren, if anyone has toddlers, this is a great gift at a great price from Sam’s Club. We gave one to our grandson for his birthday, but his little sister is fighting to ride it and push it.

For all the parents whose students are a Southwest Airline’s flight away…Costco has $500 southwest gift cards for $450. If you already have to buy flights, nice discount to lock in.

I agree. Especially after southwest seemed to devalue their points redemptions over the last year.

And their prices have skyrocketed!

Perhaps this was mentioned somewhere above - but another advent calendar, this for Nespresso lovers:
