I have a few of the variegated poinsettia plants that still look fab. I can’t bring myself to throw them away. Is it crazy to still have them out?
What do you do with yours?

Haven’t bought a poinsettia in years, but I always leave some lights and other wintery/red stuff (minimal) out for January and sometimes up to Valentine’s. But I live in a cold climate so it looks ok. What color is it? How about drop it in a different container to take some of the “Christmas” away from it?
I really don’t care for them, but if you are motivated, you can keep it going.

plant them.
Plant them? We live in CT and its 13 degrees out today, windy and snowing.
I water mine…and usually about Valentine’s Day, they die.
Until the leaves fall off, I keep them in our family room.
Even where I live, the temps drop to below freezing (this week it’s dropping to the teens) so anything outside must be able to withstand freezing temps, which poinsettias cannot.
These are the variated red and yellow streaked ones.
I can feel your pain. It just seems wrong to throw out a perfectly healthy and flowering plant. Next year I will get white poinsettas as they will fit better with my January decorating scheme (white and green). The enormous red one that I have now ( a lovely gift) looks a bit ‘clash-y’ right now, but I can’t bring myself to get rid of it yet as it is still quite healthy.
Today I did put it into a large ceramic container which covers the foil that’s wrapped about the pot and I wish I’d thought of this much sooner as it looks much better this way.
when I was in Puerto Rico many years ago, I saw them planted as a hedge in front of homes. It looked stunning but that’s sadly not an option for me (it snowed here today).
I hate to kill a perfectly healthy plant, so one year I kept it and the following Autumn I put it through the darkness routine it requires to re-bloom. And it did re-bloom. But it just didn’t look nearly as attractive as the professionally bloomed ones. Now I just close my eyes while I throw them out.
Our local nursery is taking them back.
Years ago, I kept three poinsettias going for weeks after the holidays. When I finally tired of them, I dropped them at our town’s recycle/exchange shack (in a corner of the dump/transfer station–for stuff that someone else might be able to use). Stopped by a friend’s house on the way home and there they were. She kept them going to more than ten years.
If I currently had poinsettias I didn’t want, I’d put them on Craigslist or Freecycle.
