Holy Cross RD 2024

You have bad information— the visitor policy is effectively 100% open. Maybe in some archaic rule book it may say that but it’s not practiced in reality. Also most schools require you to swipe into floors that are not yours.

Son accepted-

Stats:
1390 SAT
3.7 weighted GPA
Coursework-lots of AP and Honors Classes
Great letters of rec
4 years XC but not recruited athlete
Volunteer work
Demonstrated interest- attended July program from California
Interviewed on campus

Was also accepted at University of Michigan – so totally different types of schools

@sdny231 Ok. We looked it up in the handbook Was not told on any other of our approximately 15 tours about not having access to other floors so that stuck out to him. So maybe he would have gone to HC given the chance but they strangely given his stats, visit and great interview waitlisted him and there’s no institutional aid for acceptances from the waitlist so he won’t be going there

Accepted! I am so excited. Holy Cross was my top choice. Does anybody know if there is a group chat for the Class of 2024?

My S24 was accepted to Holy Cross, Trinity and ConnCollege - all with about the same money. He’s been to each campus twice. He liked HC but the dorms are dreadful. Trinity - Is Hartford a deal breaker? ConnCollege - is there enough to do? S is a quiet laid back kid. Likely to major in History but interested in the typical LAC courses. Catholic high school but not overly preppy.

@taranyny My son was waitlisted by HC (strange we thought) and accepted to Trinity and Conn with tons of money (merit, etc). From what I’ve read on other sites Conn is a bit isolated and not much to do in New London. Beach sounds good in warm months though. My son is leaning toward accepting Trinity’s offer while staying on waitlists. They gave him at 5-7K more $$$ than his other acceptances and it does seem while the area right around Trinity can be a bit sketchy there’s a lot to do in Hartford in general and a lot on Trinity Campus. Trinity is solid in History. Not sure about Conn and HC. Probably fine. DS is a theatre/poly sci major (probably) and I just happened to notice Trinity ranked well in History on Niche. My son is not overly preppy, but fits in with everyone overall, plus Trinity is trying to change their preppy image and demographics (already have to an extent). It would would have made a hard choice even harder had he been accepted to HC.

Daughter accepted

31 ACT
4.0 unweighted
$0
Interviewed

Very strong rec’s, EC’s, AP’s, leadership, scholar athlete, top 10% of high school class. West coast based.

HC longshot wo merit $$

@Charlie2772 You mentioned your son was waitlisted at HC. I suspect schools like HC might be hitting their waitlist much more than in the recent past given the virus and economic uncertainty. (Don’t know if this has any bearing or not in your particular situation as it looks like you are leaning Trinity in any case.)

@LaxMass Leaning toward mostly bc the aid package is sooo good. I think based on a lot of what I’ve read recently he’d be pretty happy at Holy Cross. Might even choose it over Trinity if accepted.

Dreadful dorms? Hadn’t heard that ---- wasn’t able to do admitted students or tour. Why? I did hear that forced tripled rooms do not get a discount which was unusual

The freshman dorms are actually pretty good and the junior/senior dorms even better. Freshman dorms have wide hallways with lots of natural light so it really promotes fostering community. Rooms have very good storage and good light. Forced triples aren’t the greatest and the bathrooms and stairwells could use some updating, but the rooms/hallways are better than a lot of first year dorms out there. Would say they are much better than Trinity’s
