Looking for recommendations for websites/boards/blogs on home remodel topics. I have a contractor, so am not interested in DIY.

Essentially, I’m looking for the collegeconfidential.com of home remodeling.

Thanks

The Gardenweb is good. It helped with my kitchen remodel. Lots of different specific forums.

[That Home Site! Forums - GardenWeb](Explore All Home Forum Discussions | Houzz)

Thanks for starting this thread, avoidingwork!
I am jsut about to launch into the same thing! Kitchen, laundry room, 4 bathrooms. I found this article http://money.aol.com/consreports/smartshopping/secrets-of-a-successful-kitchen-remodel?icid=200100397x1205415682x1200256914 and another really cool one wit contemporary stuff (if you like tht) but I have to find the link. I’ll report back when I find it

thanks DeniseC.

jym626, the consumer reports article was helpful. I’ll soon be picking out the finishes for the kitchen. Let me know when you find the other article. thanks!

thisoldhouse.com has tons of great articles

Check out the credentials of anyone you wish to use in advance on angieslist.com.

Fine Homebuilding [Fine Homebuilding - trusted residential construction, home design, and renovation articles, videos, magazines, and books](Fine Homebuilding - Expert home construction tips, tool reviews, remodeling design and layout ideas, house project plans, and advice for homeowners) is aimed at contractors, but it’s a great site. There’s a message board, a fair amount of free material and excellent archives with great ideas if you are willing to pay.

oooh. great link…thanks! My Merimekko Kitchen wallpaper has been in and out of fashion twice in the last forty years…

scualum and mathmom thanks for the links.

I joined angies list (sf bay area) when I was looking for movers, and am pretty disappointed. There are just not that many reviews in my area. I get much better information from consumers checkbook ([Consumers’ Checkbook](<a href=“Puget Sound Consumers' Checkbook - Unbiased Ratings and Advice”>Puget Sound Consumers' Checkbook - Unbiased Ratings and Advice)).

I’ve hired my contractor, plans are done and approved, and the work is currently in process. Mostly, the decisions I have pending are with finish work. The project includes kitchen, 2 baths, and downstairs remodel.

Thanks again!

I was almost done with our kitchen when I found the site I linked above. The gallery pages of pictures on the kitchen forum helped me look at lots of backsplashes, edging details and weed out what I liked and didn’t like. Best of luck.

That link seems to go directly to a sign in pg. Is ther another link??
The one I was looking for is a really cool site called Trendir [Trendir - Home Decorating Trends magazine](http://trendir.com/) Some of the stuff is really wild, but some is really cool.

DeniceC. I cant seem to find any link to a gallery of pictures on a kitchen forum. Can you post it? Also, is that Consumers Checkbook of any use to peoole who do not live in the cities served bythem? Does it have ideas, photos, etc? thanks

** If you were referring to the fine homebuilding website, it wants $$$ to read the articles (even for the “14 day free trial”. Any way to see them without paying?

jym626, try this: [Kitchen Forum - GardenWeb](<a href=“Kitchen Forum | Houzz”>Kitchen Forum | Houzz)

Thanks, Denice!

DeniceC
That website is a little challenging to navigate. Is there an easy way to click through pictures of remodels or backsplashes (prefereably contemporary style)? Thanks

No, sorry, don’t have any great tips.

jym626, try this.
[Finished Kitchens Blog](http://finishedkitchens.blogspot.com/)

Read the FKB FAQ on the right hand side for instructions on how to do searches.

AArrrggghhh!!! I have done all that and still am having trouble finding a bunch of pictures to look at of contemporary style kitchen remodels!!
Maybe later–

Consumers Checkbook has articles in the same vein as Consumers Reports. But, the biggest value is in the reviews of local providers.

The Finished Kitchens Slideshow is an easy way to see all (not just the contemporary) photos.

Remembered that Sunset Magazine ([Home - Sunset.com](Sunset Magazine - Living in the West)) is another resource

I heard about freecycle at some point on this forum…I have been giving away the stuff that is not being used again in our remodel - there are definitely people that will take and use your leftovers…just be sure to use a separate e-mail address because when you sign up for freecycle you will be overwhelmed!!

gave away sink, faucet set and cultured marble vanity top
mattress set

still have to go cooktop, over/microwave,kitchen sink
