Home Schooled Applicants

I know that Princeton admits home schooled applicants because the valedictorian in 2002 (or maybe 04) was home schooled, according to the site. What I don’t know is “What kind of home schooler applies successfully?” And, “What is the best strategy for a home schooled student?” And one more unrelated question, “Is it really rare to find an intended English major who is white, male, and has an 800 cr score?”

Hi Austerity,

My son is a homeschooler and will be applying. We don’t know any homeschoolers that have been admitted recently but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. It seems that the strategy for homeschooled applicants is very similar to regular applicants: be the best, be passionate, be committed, be recognized nationally at something, write well, be gifted and creative, and have great scores (and lots of 'em), coursework, grades, and letters of recommendation.

As for your third question, hmm. I dunno. My son’s not white, had a 790 in CR, and wants to be a physics or math major.

I wish you the best, Austerity!

Thank you. I hope your son gets in.
