Your story plus your leadership makes you a good applicant. Just try to get the SAT up.
If SAT gets up to 2200 or so
-Vanderbilt University accept
-Harvard waitlist
-Princeton accept
-Brown accept
-Georgetown accept
-Cornell accept
-USC accept
-Dartmouth accept
-UC Berkeley reject just cuz
-UCLA accept
-UChicago accept
-UPenn accept
I just want to say that you are awesome! I hope you get accepted to every single school on your list. It is a fact that you will get into at least one of these great schools, if not all of them. Do amazing things!
This entire thread is funny… your stats are the same as most other people who get rejected at these… except because of the story people at saying you’re a match at harvard… Anyway, your stats are good and your story is great, so I hope some of them work out…
Anyway, GTown, Cornell, USC, UCB, and UCLA are about matches, the rest are reaches and high reaches.
I think your app is really strong along with your test scores and unique background. I honestly could see you getting into every school you applied to, but I bet Princeton and Harvard will flip-flop and one will admit and one will deny. You have a really awesome app and you’ll do great in college!
Good luck!

You have an amazing story to tell the admissions officers. One of the hardest things for an applicant to do is to stand out, and with your background, you will undoubtedly do exactly that. Although the most competitive schools (like the Ivy Leagues) tend to expect >2200 and much investment in skills outside of school, your childhood situation and URM status will help you a lot. I mean, how many homeless children end up as amazing as you? That takes motivation, intelligence, and commitment. I hope you get into your dream schools. You seem like a very kind and talented kid:)

Amazing story over all, competitive in most/all of the categories . Keep me posted, and good luck, not that you need it.

UChicago certainly isn’t a match seeing that their accept rate is 8%. Ranking the schools in difficulty from hardest to easiest, I’d say
Harvard
Princeton
UChicago, Brown
Penn
Dart
Vandy
Gtown
USC
UCB, UCLA
Everything from Harvard to Dartmouth is a reach I think.
Like everyone is saying, your situation and resume is amazing and honestly inspiring! Good luck! The only thing that may hold you back are your test scores.
-Vanderbilt University: reach (only because many of my equally qualified friends were rejected ED- apparently they’re really focused on test scores this year)
-Harvard: reach
-Princeton: low reach
-Brown: low reach
-Georgetown: High Match
-Cornell: Match
-USC: High Match
-Dartmouth: High Match
-UChicago : High Match
-UPenn; High Match

Honestly, I’m not sure how accurate I am with this (new member) but here is my best guess!
-Vanderbilt University: Accepted
-Harvard: Accepted
-Princeton: Waitlisted (Number two in my senior class was deferred with near perfect test scores but lack ec’s)
-Brown: Accepted
-Georgetown: Accepted
-Cornell: Accepted
-USC: Accepted with a full ride scholarship
-Dartmouth: Not a school that I’ve looked into personally or have heard anything about
-UC Berkeley: Accepted
-UCLA: Accepted
-UChicago: Accepted
-UPenn: Waitlisted (Number three in my senior class was deferred with great academics but does not share your story so it’s hard to say)
I’m sure you’ll have a great selection of schools to choose from!
The worst chance I have ever seen. Not being mean, but if you tell someone inaccurate information all it will do is get their hopes up… which will probably later be crushed. When you say homeless, what kind of homeless do you mean? Living on the streets or family has no home, etc staying in a hotel or with friends? Nevertheless, no matter how good your story is, it happened really early and did not affect your results that much. You did not even score a 2000 on the SAT. I don’t think you can blame being homeless on that? Unless I am seeing this wrong, which if I am tell me, but you were homeless at a young age and that won’t affect you too much? Unless it is street homeless, but still not too much because it was at a young age. I am not being insensitive, neither am I speaking from no experience. I lived in an island just east of South Africa for the first 8 years of my life. First stages of my life, which looks similar to what you have typed in terms of age. I lived through racism, being homeless and religious cults. Racism being that I was one of the few white people at all my schools. I went to almost 15 different schools in my 5 years of schooling. No sport team would include me due to my race, no club, no after school activities… Homeless being that we could not purchase or rent ANY houses due to our race for the most part of it. The expensive houses being leased out by white owners were very expensive, and given our economic status at the moment we could not afford it. For almost a year, we settled in with a religious cult, being that it was the only place we could find. They had “slaves” working for them. Not the slaves you see in old western films or 12 Years a Slave, but volunteer workers from Ghana. I can’t remember much, but they were taken or left their families for a “better” lifestyle were they could “experience god”. Idk I don’t believe in their crap and I can’t remember most of it… i was 6 or 7. But I digress, I had a tough upbringing also, not saying it was comparable to yours, because I don’t know the half of it. But I still scored a 2300 on my SAT, a 35 on my ACT, and 800 on 3 SAT IIs. If I scored a 1600 it would not be because of that, it would be because of my lack of studying or lack of test taking skills. That is what they will see unless you somehow change their opinion on that. Because if you don’t, no matter the story, i don’t think they will accept someone with sub-par scores.
Good luck!
I just re-read and noticed you scored above 2000, but that was not the point. Your only 800 was on your first language I assume? And the worst chance message was directed at mock bulldog14, and most of these people just saying ACCEPTED ACCEPTED ACCEPTED. I am not here to insult you or put your story down, but I am just being reasonable and pointing some things out.
So here is my final chance thing:
-Harvard - high reach
-Princeton - high reach
-Brown - high reach
-Georgetown - reach
-Cornell - reach/high reach
-USC - high match
-Dartmouth - reach/high reach
-UC Berkeley - low reach
-UCLA - low reach/match
-UChicago - high reach
-UPenn - high reach
You have an excellent chance at Harvard! You have excellent test scores, which, as you know, are important, but won’t guarantee admittance to Harvard. Good recs and essays are what make you different from the other applicants and as long as you separated yourself from the others, you’ll have a good chance anywhere. I liked that you discussed your success at Brookstone because it tells admission officers that you are a hard worker who takes the initiative to preform well (Btw, regardless of where you go, that will make you successful when you enter the job market). There are a few aspects of your application that are a bit troubling. As someone with a spanish background, you already have an advantage in spanish. Even with an 800 on your SAT II in Spanish, I think that will to some extent have a negative impact on your application. Acing an exam in elementary spanish shows that you were trying to beef up your application for colleges and shows no intellectual curiosity. Had you taken an unfamiliar language throughout high school and got a 600 on the SAT II, you would have been better off. Also, make sure you get that SAT I up to a 2250+ and your standardized test won’t be a problem for admission. You sound like a great person with a great story. I hope you get in! It sounds like you will probably get into UCLA and USC. Some of the mid range, like Dartmouth and Georgetown could really go either way. The others will be reaches with your stats. You have a good story, however, and it’s difficult to predict which of your colleges will weigh that the most. I would guess that at least one or two of the very top schools would give that extreme consideration and possibly accept you.
