I have a few, but they all contain 1/3 or more cup sugar. Can someone share their delicious recipes with little to no sugar? Thanks!
For a small salad, I do:
-1 Tbsp. good EVOO
-1 Tbsp. good apple cider vinegar
-sprinkle of salt to taste
-good grind of pepper grinder
-1/2 tsp. oregano
-1/4 tsp. garlic powder
*sometimes I add a little fresh parmesan cheese as well- optional, but good if you have/like it
*This is great on salads (literally eat it almost every night) and we use it to marinade onions in to either add to the salad, or have with chicken, burgers, on sandwiches, flatbread, etc. So good.
All of my kids love this salad dressing and the onions, including one who did not like onions prior.
Yeah, salad dressings can have a lot of sugar and at least a sweetener - thatâs why they are so delicious!
This one is also for a one time use dressing (one salad for a dinner for a few people) - made it recently and very good
Apple Cider Maple Vinaigrette
- 2-4 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 tbsp dijon mustard
- 1/2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves (or rosemary)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- fresh cracked black pepper
How about this one?
3/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup red or white wine vinegar
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 tsp lemon juice
You can also look for some tahini based dressings. Tahini provides a creaminess and is high in protein and healthy fats - may not need as much sweetener!
Many years ago, I had a terrific creamy Italian type salad dressing made with buttermilk. IIRC, it was a weight watchers recipe. Maybe someone has itâŠ
My go to dressing is 4 T EVOO, 1 T balsamic, 1 T Dijon mustard, salt and pepper.
I never add sugar. The closest I come would be 1 teaspoon of honey.
This is actually courtesy of Marilyn, from something I posted a couple of years ago. The dressing is pretty good.
I like to make a traditional vinaigrette but add a small amount (a tsp or so) to cut down the acid and add a hint of sweetness. Alternatively honey or maple syrup also go a long way.
Whisk together equal parts of EVOO and balsamic seasoned with salt and pepper and garlic powder. I like this on arugula with burrata and tomatoes.
I do
2/3 Balsamic
1/3 Olive Oil
Honey - a good squirt
Dijon Mustard - big spoonful
I donât measure per se.
It comes out thick and yummy - every time.
This is close to the WWs recipe I remember.
INGREDIENTS
UNITS: US
- 1 cup low-fat buttermilk
- 4 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon honey (warmed to pour more easily)
- 1 tablespoon light mayonnaise
- 1â2teaspoon basil, finely chopped
- 1 small garlic clove, minced
- 1â4teaspoon black pepper
- 1â2teaspoon salt
I also find that adding some avocado and/or soaked cashews works great for those who prefer creamy dressing.
I also make a creamy balsamic in the food processor with EVOO, balsamic, fresh basil and salt and pepper. I donât really measure this I just add the ingredients until it tastes right.
I like barely-dressed greens sprinkled with flavored vinegars from the olive mill down the street from us. DH likes more substance. This is one of his (so easy) favorites:
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
1-2 tsps. Dijon mustard
1/4 cup red wine vinegar (or other flavor)
1 tsp. chopped fresh herb (whatever is on hand from the garden)
Neither of us likes any hint of sweetness in our dressings.
1/2c. EVOO (I use one from TuscanyâLaudemio. Itâs pricey and I use it primarily for salad dressing.)
2 tbs Vinegar (balsamic or white)
1 tsp. dijon mustard
1 tsp light molasses (I got this tip from Americaâs Test Kitchenâit helps to keep the dressing from separating.)
sea salt and pepper
These are exactly what I was looking for! Thank you all so much for taking the time to post. As far as creamy dressings, I was watching Queer Eye and he was making one with avocado. I need to rewatch that.
Balsalmic almost = sugar.
That said, my go to dressing has white balsalmic. I make up a jar of it so itâs always on hand.
1 C olive oil
1/3 C (roughly, I donât measure any more) white balsalmic vinegar
6 Tablespoons dijon mustard
Shake. Done!
(Side note: the new season of Queer Eye so far is FANTASTIC)
Similar, I like to use fresh lemon juice instead of vinegar, and add finely minced garlic made into a paste with salt. I donât like sweet dressings, or any commercially prepared.
