I chose to go to a school 9 hours away from home, I went from a small town to a big city and I know almost nobody here. I never leave my apartment and I’m sad every day. I broke up with my girlfriend to come here because we are going to different schools and I’m starting to regret that decision. School doesn’t start for another month but I don’t know if I can wait that long. I’ve already wanted to go home at least once a day. Should I transfer to a college closer to home? Should I transfer to the college my girlfriend is attending? Or should I stay here and see if it gets better?
If you broke up with her, she is your ex-girlfriend.
It is too late to transfer to another school this year.
Hang in there and appreciate what you have, not lament what you lack.
You’re not alone and many people initially struggle with feelings of homesickness. Once school starts it should be a bit easier since you’ll get to know more people, have more going on and other things to occupy your time with. I’d give the school a chance to at least start before making the decision of moving. Usually homesickness decreases with time and you’ll likely miss your ex less with time as well. Don’t be afraid to seek out counseling (many schools offer it at free/reduced rates to students) if problems persist or if you’re particularly unhappy.
