homework

How many hours do students usually spend for homework per week?

related question: about how much homework is assigned in a typical carleton class, for each class?

in units, let’s say that I am looking for the rough amount of reading assigned for each class that is due at the next class.

We received this number from Lawrence U. Now I’d like to see how Carleton comprares.

I don’t know what they told you at Lawrence, because the number is going to vary so widely from class to class that it’s difficult to say.

For the classes that meet three times a week, (which are a majority) I would estimate 2 hours for a regular class.

the lawrence guy expressed the amount of work in number of pages of reading (or equivalent time doing something else). he said it was around 130 pages per class per subject.

The estimate I’ve heard around campus is 20 hours per week outside of class, and that’s a light week. Obviously it varies a lot depending on the student, the classes etc.

To give a more definitive answer I have around 50-60 pages of reading per class.

P.S. 130 pages! Holy Cow! That seems like it would be hard to cover in one class period.
